Should I place with the lens facing up or should I place with the lens facing down on the cookie sheet?

Another thing What size rivets should be used for reassembly?
I am new to rivets....

I would just place it facing up. As for the rivets, I'm not too sure, I typically replace rivets with a nut and bolt on something like this.

I replaced the rivets with small screws. I put my light in the oven, lens side up, for 20 mins at 200. I did not ask the wife for permission first (better to beg forgiveness than get permission) I tried 10 and 15 mins, but that wasn't enough. I was afraid I'd melt the lens. It wasn't exactly easy to separate the lens from the body, but I was careful. I used a red 12V DC LED strip from SuperBrightLEDs. It's waterproof, pre-wired, has a 3M adhesive backing and is cut-able with scissors every 3rd bulb. It was $12. (not worth scrounging the salvage yard for a Chevy Venture for a used one). Very happy with the result.

What would you use to seal the red lens to the lights housing?

I have G02 superglue and hot glue....

I used clear silicon to seal the lens to the body and hot glue to seal unwanted holes in the body.

No. It's not necessary, hot glue would be hard to apply and probably very messy. All your trying to do is keep water out of the light and if you're using a waterproof LED strip that's not even critical. Clear silicon seemed to me to be the perfect solution.

I ended using silicone adheisive by Liquid nails.
