Anyone still driving 2nd gens?

Mines an almost daily driver. Not shy to use it for road trips too. Its a ford that requires regular maintenance. Otherwise probably one of the most reliable vehicles you could own. The v8 302 and the 4r70w trans combo to me is pretty top rated and long lasting.

Thats a good lookin rig. Is that a swing out spare rack? I have eyeballed those a few times. I do not want to out my spare on the roof but would love to be able to remove it from below for clearance and could run the dual exhaust better.

NICE TRUCK !!!! I love those racks . That truck is forever man !!!

Love my Mounty. But I do miss my old lifted 91 explorer (hands down best I’ve ever owned, rip Rustyy 450,x.. miles)). Currently I have an 01 mountaineer 4dr awd 5.0 stock on 31/10.5/15 with 215,000 and climbing. I want to add a lift, but I won’t drop a grand, goal is around $500 or less, need new rims as well (mine are bent up). I daily drive and hit trails in the woods. Also hauls my 10’ camper, fits a twin bed, all my gear. Cant really complain much. Now if I were smart enough to figure out this lifting issue (I’m trying to follow threads here 😬🤦‍♀️Headache time 😆)....View attachment 328763View attachment 328764
I notice that you carry your boat on edge ,, and i notice that many people also do . Kayak stores also sell styrofoam skids , that are shaped to carry on edge . I'm just wondering if that is for space , or what , because i've got a kayak also , but im gonna carry it flat . They do say that these kayaks should be stored on edge , to help keep the shape of them . I have a Dagger Mumba kayak , and i store it on edge , but i figure that if i'm just going from A to B , it should be OK to haul it flat , otherwise i will need special skids for it and or racks.
Any way , that is very impressive rig that you have there , with a nice trailer , and great looking truck in good shape !! Thanks for the pics

I don't think so.
Wait, what is in the background to the left of your tent?
Really like your set up, and pics. Where You at?
Seeing that first picture w/ what I thought was a structure brought up memories of visiting my Grandfather every other year. We would "camp out" back by the stable only going to the house for #2. Riding horses all day, and on the first day harvesting a deer, and living off it the next 2.--My Grandmother thought we were nuts....

It’s a guy in shorts next to a propane tank.

That's one of my friends.
This was a group camp out with about 15 people. I got there first. :-)
This is the dry side of Washington state, Eastern Washington.
This was a shakedown of some changes this year, swapped out my popup shelter for the truck mounted awning (lighter weight, less bulk).
The Ex did great

Yuup, see it now.
You live on the east side?

Curious if anyone still running a 2nd gen explorer set up? I’ve seen a ton roll out of the garages since we got dumped on with snow up here in the north.
if you’re still running a 2nd gen, any trouble or recent issues?
Still running! I should hope so! Just got it in March this year, 174k no rattles on the SOHC. Needed brakes/exhaust going in, has the 4x4 so I'm ready for snow! (Which I would like more than the 90+ temps right now, LOL). Maybe someone can tell me definitively, is it mainly RWD when the automatic 4x4 isn't engaged? It feels like a RWD going down the road...Really enjoying it. First vehicle for me that wasn't a sedan.

My son's daily driver... 96 XLT 4X4 4.0 with 5 speed manual tranny.

That A4WD does operate in RWD all the time until it senses a speed difference front to back. Then it engages the front driveshaft. The 4WD selected forces it to hold the front shaft all the time, so it's typical to be bad on dry pavement having it set to 4WD. You probably will only feel it engage when the tires are on a little dirt or gravel along the road's edge, and mash the gas.
