Better batteries do not solve that problem at all, the energy has to come from somewhere.

Leverage all the hot air that is produced in Washington :)

agree with this!!! if we can greenify the grid and prices come down a bit compared to hybrids etc, i think EVs could be good DD's and gassers can still be around for long distance etc, but then begs the question that if EVs are this popular in the future and gas takes the back seat, will there be less gas stations, and will it be closer to how sparse ev stations are now? for now, i think i would go with a hybrid maverick for the best of both worlds considering prcie etc
Plug in hybrids are where it's at. Hybrids now go around 40mpg or so. Put a bigger battery in it so you can drive all electric longer and that number jumps. The mav hybrid has a fairly small battery. Straight EV's are a stupid joke.

My 2000 Golf TDI did nearly 50mpg. 40 from a hybrid isn't worth the extra cost and complexity for me.

imo, the new maverick seems interesting! the main thing for me wouldve been the tranny, but it seems really good so far! might be worth it for the XL hybrid for me at least, good gas mileage, small/compact, sizeable capacity! what do you think?

40mpg is laughable. I get that in my Kia driving like jerk.

This is why I say plug in hybrids are the way forward if we are actually serious about improving efficiency. If you buy into the argument that plugging in your car is a good idea. In any case 40mpg is a lot better than the 12/13 I get on my 05 explorer so there is that, then again I didn't buy the explorer for it's economy but for it's utility.

I want us to get away from coal as fast as possible, that's a very dirty energy source we've relied on for ages. I was very disappointed when they began shutting down nuclear plants which were in progress. That may have been a very good thing in the short term, due to poor manufacturing that was found in the construction of those plants. But hopefully we will get back to those, and someone will properly oversee the construction quality really well the next time.
Next Generation Nuclear is real, and a promising design.
I read a couple years back about The Army getting a grant to build micro reactors that would fit inside a semi trailer.
That technology would work it's way down to FEMA.
There are several private companies pursuing it as well.

Y'all hate me for this but my family in KY are all Cole miners

If used right ....Go Coal..............
Coal-fired electricity generation is cleaner than ever. NETL’s research shows that a new coal plant with pollution controls reduces nitrogen oxides by 83 percent, sulfur dioxide by 98 percent, and particulate matter by 99.8 percent compared to plants without controls.
But that’s not all the Keystone State and DOE have to offer. Pennsylvania is also a major player in our Nation’s natural gas portfolio. And DOE’s private and public sector partners across the state are driving the growth of American manufacturing, enhancing energy security and diversity, and advancing fossil fuel innovation.
As the third-largest coal producing state, Pennsylvania is a crucial member of America’s coal industry. Furthermore, Pennsylvania coal is some of the highest quality coal in the world and can be used not only for its heating value but also for its carbon content.
To that end, DOE is researching and developing an entirely new market for coal that uses the carbon value of coal, not the heating value. Coal’s high carbon content makes it an ideal feedstock for a variety of high-value materials ranging from carbon fiber to graphene to building materials. Coal can also serve as a feedstock for hydrogen production. Hydrogen is a transitional carbon-free energy source that can be used for power generation and as a transportation fuel.

Look Donald their is good in almost everything. If not for coal their would not have been a 'Iron Age"
one of the largest jumps for mankind.......Other wise we would be living in a mud hut with 420.....
Thinking of a way to make a sword with iron.........and thinking why 420 was always smoking and hoging
the wood drums...all the time.

Me living in a mud hut is actually about as factual as you’ve gotten so far. Why start being right now, eh?

The coal industry is garbage. “Go Coal” may as well say, “Hey, come kill me and all my neighbors, so a few can get rich at the expense of my life”

I can think of two technologies which started from nothing only to become ubiquitous in a short time. Electricity, and the telephone network.

They began with no infrastructure, and "not enough power". As always US workers and the companies they worked for stepped up to the challenge.

Auto manufacturers aren't being forced into this. They are looking forward to lower production costs and fewer warranty claims.

Linesman and power distribution will surely be the next wave of “pipeline” work. High pay, even higher demand.

That gave me a headache

I did commercial business phone work when I was at the cable company, they always sent me out on the worst jobs. I'd rather work on finding a bad connection on those poles than in a phone room.

I just went and found the original article. There are several bullet points very conveniently left out, such as having 200,000 reservations for it.

Those poor people.

The complete article of anyone is interested in non-cherry picked information.
