This is something I came up with on my 03. Do at your own risk.
On these and the 95-01 explorers, the seat bolts to a power or manual track that bolts to the floor. 4 m8 bolts retain the seat to the track.
I measured and found some aluminum angle that's the same thickness and slightly wider than the aluminum on the track,1 1/2" x1/8". Measured 2" further back, cut the sections at a little over 18" long, bolted then to the track, drilled 4 holes 2" further back. also had to drill 2 holes in the original track and 2 in the seat base. Used 8 bolts total. Not something you want to skimp on. Also have to notch the inside angle to fit around the seat belt track bracket. I've done the drivers side and will do the pass side seat this weekend. I don't think you could do much over 2" without more work. It is much more comfortable if you're close to 6' or taller.
