So I decided that I was going to take my Explorer up Sivlerado Rd. to shoot some video for my school project. I did a little "crawling" through some holes and figured everything was fine that the end of the day, WRONG! Later that day I drive over a speed bump and hear thins noise, the noise sounded like something had just landed on my axle or driveshaft, after I inspected I was pleased to find nothing wrong with either the axle or driveshaft, but I did find some carnage from the "crawling". Heres what I found.

This is what i found after looking under the car, that doesn't look right does it?

Then took a closer look from under.

Found that little guy.

Was able to move the shock back.

Carnage.

Jerry Rigged till I can fix it tomorrow.

More Carnage

What should I do make it stronger and prevent this from happening again?

dang, what brand were those, hopefully not ranchos, cause i jsut bought some and they are going on tommarow-

ProComp ES9000's

Its not the shock, the shocks are great, its the mounts and my driving, i think...

after u put the shocks on could u tell a big difference between stock

Oh ya, when i first got the car I took it in the dirt completely stock, later found out the stock shocks were blown, but the next time i hit the dirt with the new shocks, loved it. They handle the shock and rebound better.

What shall I do to solve this problem!?!?!

they have a lifetime warrenty, take them off and get new ones

the warranty doesnt cover the shock tabs, which you broke.. I had and still have the same problem.. i stole a tab off a old shock laying around, but then i also lost the bolts that bolt that the tab to the frame. Your best bet is to steal a old tab off somebody's shock and find some the Perfect size nut and bolts or else you'll snap the bolts back off after you jump your truck like me.

Doesn't the Zimmerman mod require relocating the top shock mount?? if it does, you could do that mod.

do the same thing that is on there..just use thicker steel tube(think its steel)..hammer the ends flat and bolt it back down use some washers to..should work..least till u break it again =) lol

You can weld two new mounting tabs with a hole in each one then run a bolt there and just change the way your shock mounts. basiclly the upper shock mount will mount the same as the bottom shock mount on that shock. I hope this is easy to understand its hard for me to explain in words.

Use some solid steel bar stock to fabricate new mounting tabs (like OME shocks). If you're interested in going that route, let me know, I take some pics of mine and measure them up for you.

Dave.

why arnt the tabs covered under warrenty, i thought it was a no questions asked thing?

Bar pin Eliminators

You could call them for dimensions. Shock ends are fairly standard so Im guessing some will fit.

Also are your shocks long enough?? Check the suspension at full droop- may be they ar'nt long enough and put additional strees on the pins.

haha that'd suck if ur shocks weren't long enough.. haha they'd act like limit straps! haha

I agree with Steve. I have never had a problem witm my shock mounts and as you can see from my sig the truck is built and it's used just as hard. Both of my Exploders were SOA with Rancho shocks mounted in the stock location with 150k+ miles on each.

That's a bummer. I hope that doesn't happen again. You can get new bar pins from any auto parts house. I'd send the bar pin back for warrenty. What's the worst that could happen? They could say 'no'.

Thanks for the input guys. I am in the process of fabing my own shock tabs at my dads office.

I think the reason it broken was i got some crazy flexing going, I was very articulated.

Steve- I don't know, but that did cross my mind, i will look into it! Thanks!

By the way, i bought the shocks at 4wheelparts in Irvine, I took it to them cause i am lazy and had just recently replaced the bushings (not fun, suspension is not fun), they got it done in 15 mins and charged me $24.86. :D Can't complain there! So thumbs up to 4WheelParts!
