Does anyone have an answer if the Kits that Trailmaster or Superlift make for the 1997 X will work on the AWD version or does this have to be for the 4x4 only w/straight axle. I was told by my perfomance shop that they didnt work. I AM SO MAD if these dont work.

And along with that does anyone have any other options if this is the case.

Thanks all.

There is no difference in suspension between the AWD and 4WD (neither come with a straight axle). The only thing that might not work is if you have the Automatic Ride Control in which case you would have to disable it and use the shocks from the lift kit if it comes with them. If not, then you'll need new shocks. Try a different shop, one that knows what they are talking about. Chances are the shop you went to specializes in Jeeps and doesn't know a whole lot about Explorers (most don't).

yup no diff between awd and 4x4 suspension wise.... other than possibility of ARC

and unless it was a custom job, no explorer ever had a front solid axle

Thanks for the info I am gonna pursue this issue further, really want another 4 in lift on my X.:bounce:

Well just called superlift and he said that there is no garauntee that the kit works on AWD vehicles. He hinted to something being different with the Tcase and that the kit may not sit properly...... This kinda sux... Gonna try and call trailmaster next and we will see what they say...

Well I am CONFUSED now even TRAILMASTER said it wont work well with the AWD because of the Drive Shaft....

Does anyone have a 1997 AWD with suspension lift and if so tell me what had to be CHANGED.

It might be a wild guess but I'm thinking you would just need to get a longer drive shaft but who knows.

By the way do you have any more pics of your x cause I have the exact same truck as you, same color and everything and you have the exact same mods I'm going to do in a week, the parts are still comen in...

Austin,

Do you have an email I can send to most of my pics are to big to put on here. I will also take some later today and post them,,,, hopefully they fit....

umm the ONLY differance from AWD to 4x4 is the t-case..EVERYTHING else is the same..what's the problem?

EDIT: and XLT's don't have the ARC option..ONLY LIMITED's and EB's had that option;) :)

Here ia a PIC trying to put more.

I agree fully there shouldnt be any difference but I have not found 1 person that has said YES I have an AWD and I put the lift on.. Ya'll see what I am saying. Its not the suspension that is supposed to be the problem it is the Tcase that affects the lift...... I dont reall y know YET but I am gonna find out....:fire:

my dad has a 97 v8 AWD..mine and his are EXACTLY the same..only the t-case is different..it does not matter if the t-case is differnt that has NOTHING to do with a lift..NOTHING

I agree that there should not be a difference....

But I was a bit unsettled when the GUY from Superlift said "Well it might not work we never put it on an AWD there is a possibility it doesnt"

This is my only real concern.

Hey AK,

Superlift said something about the TCASE being in theway and rubbing on part of the lift or making vibration......................

you dident read what i said..there's no possability's about it..the 4x4 EX's and AWD EX's ARE THE SAME i will bet my dog on it..there's no differnce..no if's and's or but's

the same!!!!

they are wrong..the t-cases are the same size(give or take alittle) you will have no prob with this..but if you don't want to listion to me..fine..you will find out soon enough(sp?)

have a good night

Thats cool with me. I mean hell what is the worse that could happen if it doesnt work I will just send it back right, or maybe someone on the board will buy it ;)

BY the WAY AK,,,,

I don't normally hang out in this area but I run into this type of problem with my Powerwagon all the time.

Could it be that the CV arrangement is diff enough to cause the problem and if so can you find someone to do a custom shaft?
