No time to pull the engine. I already have all the access since I've already taken most of the engine bay apart. I can do this in a day in vehicle. But I completely understand what you are saying. And in theory I don't disagree. But at this stage, I'll press on.- SuperGordo

Im going to be using the 15x7 ranger wheels. The stock wheels will be shelved. I don't have all four of the stock wheels anyway. I'll be using these caps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185028827314- SuperGordo

Thanks. The water pump looks like it's been replaced. But with all the corrosion I think I want to have a good look at it. The fan clutch is original. And the front cover looks rather seepy. The oil pan gasket also looks seepy so I figured just knock it all out at once. A melling oil pump is...- SuperGordo

The Valve seals were supposed to be the turnaround point in the project. After seeing the thermostat today I'm considering pulling the timing cover and the oil pan. At 253k Maybe I just need to do the oil pump, oil pan gasket, motor mounts and timing set while I have so much of this EX apart...- SuperGordo

Finished installing the valve seals today. The picture below is one of the old seals next to one of the new ones. The difference is obvious. I'm also going to replace the thermostat and the housing. It's a mess.- SuperGordo

Soon as the valve seals are finished and buttoned up I have to redo all the vacuum lines and PCV hoses that are under and around the plenum. The last owner used every imaginable thing he could find to repair stuff. The PCV lines are far from correct. So I've been using SEARCH here to work out...- SuperGordo

Today we did all the prep work to get to the drivers side valve seals. Need to pick a day to actually do the seals. But soon. The Drivers side is as clean as the passenger side under the valve cover. Which is nice.- SuperGordo

Finished the passenger side valve seals yesterday. The old girl got every Pennie’s worth from these ones. But I’m very happy looking inside the engine and the valve cover. No sludge of any kind. Which is surprising due to the apparent lack of care and maintenance. Let’s see if I can get the...- SuperGordo

Hi everyone. It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here. Sold my 2000 explorer in 2014. But October 1st I picked up a 98 with a 5.0. 2wd, and a 3.73 T-loc rear for $500. The poor truck was a real mess. I live in Las Vegas so luckily there was no rust. Worst that happens here is the paint gets...- SuperGordo

does anyone know how to bypass pats?THEFT
I just went thru something similar with a 98 Explorer 5.0 I bought a month ago. Only had 1 key and wouldn't start, and an anti theft code. I had my auto locksmith come out to make new keys and reprogram it. And it wouldn't reprogram any keys. Long story short, I had to get a new PATS box from...- SuperGordo

4WD or AWD??
I have a 2000 explorer XLT with a 4.0. Whats the easiest way to determine if it's 4WD or AWD? I'm new to explorers and 4wd type trucks. This truck definitely isn't 2WD. This is my girlfriends truck and I'm just starting to take care of it. The insurance company asked today if it was AWD or 4WD...- SuperGordo
