@CDW6212R Well, the break-in run didn't go as planned. Didn't make it to the islands, drove 65 miles out like art, turned around, and drove 65 miles home on 5 cylinders. My cat hates me. The wires looked new, no heat discoloration or drying, so I checked the connections to coil and plug, and...- DintDobbs

Update concerning the clicking inside the dash: it seems to be associated with running the A/C temp close to the external temp. Possibly short cycling and/or alternating between A/C and heat? Not sure, automatic climate control isn't something familiar to me. I ran the heat on a cooler day...- DintDobbs

@relgro I couldn't tell you what would be involved on 3rd generations (I only know 2nd gens) but a few searches could probably get the answers to any questions you'd have, concerning the front ends. Good, on new hubs, that saves you some worry there! Since you'll be under there, you might as...- DintDobbs

Explorer driving me crazy
@relgro Good that you got that figured out, definitely clear the codes and see if/when they come back. If they don't come back, good! Still strange that a misfire code wouldn't be identified by your scanner, and that a misfire could occur without setting a code... No idea, there. Absolutely...- DintDobbs

Bit the bullet and had the plugs and wires replaced by a garage... I didn't want to risk breaking the stupid things and having to pay to get the Vulture towed to the garage, and then pay for the broken plugs to be extracted while I wait for an available slot to make an appointment. Yes, it cost...- DintDobbs

@donalds Yeah, big congrats on ECU! I've been through that general area a few times, it is a magnificent college. Now the cost makes sense, family is worth more than money. @CDW6212R Helpful information there, will definitely be useful in selecting the hardware. As far as "redundancy" goes, I'll be ditching the factory parking brake in favor of this emergency brake, if/when the time comes, and hopefully rig it to the factory pedal. Brake failure is one of my...- DintDobbs

@Mbrooks420 Somewhere in the scope of 18 months to 3 years ago, I don't recall exactly. It's likely that the CoViD-19 fiascos have jacked up the prices on these things as well. @donalds I guess I was lucky or blessed that I had to get it done when I did! @CDW6212R I agree, people with no understanding of the difference between a parking brake and an emergency brake irritate me as well. The factory brakes are sufficient for the 33's on The Vulture; I can dead stop all four wheels on dry pavement (ABS kicks in). When they wear out, I plan to...- DintDobbs

Will a 4 door hatch work on a 2 door?
@DemonMudder speaks truth, I forgot that the tail lamps were also different on the 95-98's than they were on the 99-01. Good call! (I also tend to be partial to the older style of hatch, and in fact the first-gens, with the twist handle in stead of the pull handle. I've had some problems with...- DintDobbs

@donalds Sheesh, $325 for that? When I had the Sport's wind shield reseated and resealed by Eastern Auto Glass, I don't remember it costing anywhere near that much. I want to say it was around $200 for that, and they said for an extra $60 they'd throw on a new wind shield (mine had a tiny chip...- DintDobbs

Will a 4 door hatch work on a 2 door?
Observe the bottom trim piece on the Limited, absent from the Sport. To help, notice that the small ridge on the side continues behind the rear wheel well and across the hatch on the Sport, but is covered by trim pieces on the Limited. I believe Eddie Bauer and Limited shared the same fender...- DintDobbs

Will a 4 door hatch work on a 2 door?
@Zackie I have a '99 2-door and a '00 4-door, can confirm that the rear hatch is the same, but note that some trim pieces may differ between the two, for visual purposes. As I recall, the 95-98 hatch and bumper do bolt up to the 99-01 body, and vice versa, but be warned that the rear contours...- DintDobbs

@CDW6212R I saw a lot of line-lockers on the Jeep forums who had switched to Ford 8.8's, because of the 8.8's weak parking brakes, but a line lock is the exact opposite of what I'm looking for. I require an EMERGENCY brake, not so much a parking brake. A drift brake with a ratchet handle...- DintDobbs

@CDW6212R Thanks for the recommendation, might look into some thing of that sort! No more word on the clicking, didn't check it out, but will wait for it to resurface before tampering (don't want to tempt fate!). @CallMeSyd offers sound advice. Unless somebody tampered with your OBD wiring, no engine problem should ever throw a transmission code. I'm gonna second @CallMeSyd on this one, as well as the fact that ANY misfire should throw an engine code immediately (done it myself, not on an Explorer). @Fix4Dirt I've heard of the ABS method working, but never got any concrete information relating to the regear. I'm thinking of some kind of custom brackets should be constructed for this purpose.
