3800 M90 Build
OK, so no tube in the new maf when it shows up. :-) My goal is just to get what I have working properly. With new cam, intake, slightly higher compression, a tune should be able to maximize this. The motor should be flowing a lot more air than in stock form. I hear that even a tune is...- Dono

Remember, Im gen 2, so I have odb2. Truthfully, after reading about everything, I don't know if it makes a difference in my case or not. No clue. The more I learn, the more I realize I know nothing about it. From my reading, I am surprised my motor even runs. Im so confused.- Dono

bad day for my explorer
The corners are a *****. There is a very good chance the issue is the lower intake manifold. But, there is a possibility its head gasket. Once you have the lower intake off, you should be able to tell for sure where the failure is. At least, if you have to keep going and pull the head also...- Dono

I think your right JD. I remember the older days with my 455ci Trans Am. There was no computer to tweak at all. Timing was simply cam, and distributor. Great power was made out of these monster motors. Not terribly efficient, but gobs of power just the same. I'm sure yours can be made to...- Dono

No new word, sorry. I know, what you mean. To stop my oil leak on my valve cover, I had to goop the crap out of the rear gasket area with ultra black. Im not taking that apart unless I have to. I just might have a set of spacers that never make it on my motor. I'll send a followup pm...- Dono

Shall I say frequent misfire 4th cylinder
Round 2 I took the heads to a machine shop before re-installing them as things didn't work out so well the first time. $350.00 Id say do this to be sure they are ok no matter where you get the heads from so they can be vacuum tested for leakage, and fixed accordinglt. Your going to be an...- Dono

Shall I say frequent misfire 4th cylinder
You need to do a leak down test on the cylinder that keeps loosing the spark plug. You will see bubbles coming out of the radiator cap with the cap off. Cost? Might be a throw away unless you are willing to do the work yourself. I did mine myself -twice. :-( Heads are $500.00...- Dono

Shall I say frequent misfire 4th cylinder
my experience was exactlt as tou describeed. slow coolant loss, and having to replace a plug every so often. Then the issue started on the second bank also. short story, replaced both heads. No coolant loss now, not going thru spark plugs, and way better mileage and power.- Dono

Fuel Pressure Damper vs Fuel Pressure Regulator
On second look. what I see on rock auto's site is not what I have. I have another input on mine that is not connected. Its on the bottom, and looks like a vacuum line could connect to it, although there is nothing connected. Now I don't know what to say. EDIT:Looking closely at the picture I...- Dono

Fuel Pressure Damper vs Fuel Pressure Regulator
It looks like your fuel system matches ok, but it sure sounds like you have a fuel delivery issue. Here is what my damper looks like. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=942057 Notice it only has 2 holes. Fuel line screws in to one, and the other to the fuel rail- Dono

bank 1 lean again
Wow, for what its worth, you have done everything I would have tried. I got nuthin but moral support for you. That and subscribing to see what the solution is. What could cause too much air getting in to bank 1 only? It can't be a fuel delivery issue. Pressures good, and you have swapped...- Dono

Fuel Pressure Damper vs Fuel Pressure Regulator
Yup, your right. Back to a fuel delivery issue. What does the round canister look like on the fuel rail that the fuel line goes in to? Can you take a picture and post it? On my 'Canister' on my fuel rail, I have the fuel line going in to it, and that's it. You need your 'Canister' to...- Dono

Fuel Pressure Damper vs Fuel Pressure Regulator
so, did the damper get moved from the sohc to the ohv? My 2000 X has a regulator/returnless system and my fuel pressure stays high at the rail for quite a while after my key is pulled. By fuel supply, do you mean fuel pump? In the fuel tank If you mean supply to the motor, its on the front...- Dono

I'm just waiting to see what you can do with the sc mount to the lower intake. If you can make it's height a few inches shorter, I have a decision to make. I was just having a look at a newer explorer (2005) with v6 SOHC. RPCasters kit would probably fit that.- Dono

Looking at the M90 mounting plate, it looks like its only about an 8th inch thick. Doesn't look good for me and the M90. Im sure you have been told the tune can dial in the 36 pounders, so no issue. Oh man, hows the rest of your drivetrain for strength? Wow.- Dono

Im guessing its all in the tune, and how hard you are going to drive the injectors. Probably a few schools of thought on this. It has to come down to what the guy doing the tuning recommends as something he can work with. I agree that it only seems logical to use something that the factory...- Dono

Hmm, the part number (0-280-155-710) referenced against the chart I found (http://users.erols.com/srweiss/tableifc.htm) says they are 28lb. I did this research after I installed them as both banks were running rich. I thought that the chart explained the issue I was having. Not really sure...- Dono

Im going to hyjack here just to help me understand the tuning process. Here I go: Say JD were to match his MAF to his larger injectors with no forced induction and confirm thru his Wideband O2 sensor that A/F mixture was perfect. Then, he adds the forced induction. Would he still be pretty...- Dono

I bought them while I was having my missfire code issue. The guy on ebay advertises them for our motor, and I didn't do my homework. Anyway, they are not in my motor, and I will never use them. They are yours. From the looks of the chart, if you get a ford 5.0 MAF, you will be tuned. The...- Dono

Just slightly lean gives more power, but you might be shopping for new pistons. I agree, slightly rich is the way to go to keep things a bit cooler with that kind of boost/compression. I also read somewhere that going too large will create a rougher idle. If you go too large, doesn't that...- Dono
