    03 V-8 keeps stalling

03 Eddie Bauer V-8 keeps stalling at low speed after warmup. No codes. It's my 85 yo Mom's car so I drove it about 35 mi then hooked it up to a charger and added a can of SeaFoam. Spitwadding mostly. Stalls only when driving. Starts up OK after stall, runs awhile, then stalls again at low...

    Mr. Gasket thermostat?

I just received the Mr. Gasket t-stat I ordered to get better coolant flow and more responsivness. I find that the Stant I'm replacing along with the surrounding O-ring has a diameter of 52mm. The Mr. Gasket with the same O-ring is 54mm. Doesn't sound like much but 52 fits perfectly and I...

IMPRESSIONS OF JACOBS AND THEIR IGNITION SYSTEM

My sweet/sour experience with Jacobs began with a call to Jacobs to hear why I needed their electronics package. The guy I talked to freely admitted that on my vehicle, '92 XLT, the Ford electrics were as good as theirs but did I want to buy some wires? Bob ------------------ Bob...

    Aftermarket speedo driven gears?

Anyone know of a source for aftermarket speedometer driven gears for altered differential '92 Explorer? My 3.73 had a 19 tooth, I boosted to 4.56 and the largest tooth gear that looked like it would fit at the dealership was a 20. I think I need about 22 or 23. thanks, ------------------ Bob...

    fuel pressure regulator

I am not having any codes but suffer from rough idle and occasional ping. I've been meaning to change the pressure regulator for some time and ordered same from Wrenchead.com yesterday. Borg-Warner, $72.98, no tax, no shipping charge.

better manifold fm air filter to throttle body?

I've done a lot of things to increase the intake and discharge on my '92. The bottleneck now is the elliptical shaped plastic tube that takes air from the KKN conical filter to the larger throttle body. Anyone replace this with something larger? Thanks. ------------------ Bob Mulepick@aol.com...

    Borla Header ?

I'm running Borla headers, Flowmaster cat, and Borla cat-back, and have been for some time now. I, too, heard noises shortly after installation that sounded like an header leak. I checked the header bolts and some were loose. Problem solved... for awhile. The noise commenced again, I checked...

    Speedo gear help needed quick

Just a quick update. The 20 tooth driven gear only helped slightly. I've only tested it once but it looks like it only got me about 3mph closer to reality (actual 65=observed 72). I'll try the ranger station link in the hope that I can find a toothier gear aftermarket. Thanks, Bob

    Big bore throttle bodies

I agree with Mike. The performance increase you get from a larger throttle body depends on if it is the first mod you make or the last mod. It's all about getting a larger amount of fuel/air in and out more quickly. I'm sure I've given away a little gas mileage but not much... and I still use...

    32x11.5 on '92 w/2" lift?

I've got a Skyjacker 2" lift on my '92 (bigger springs, helper leafs) and have been running 31x10.5s with no problem. It looks like I could step up to 32x11.5s but I'm wondering if anyone has tried this before I buy. Shouldn't make any difference but I'm running Bushwacker fender flares and...

I'm running BFG 31x10.5s on my '92 but I've also got a 2" Skyjacker lift FWIW. Bob

    Speedo gear help needed quick

Thanks for the input. Here's what happened before I got to your replies. Took my gear to Ford (19 tooth, yellow) and the largest gear they had that looked like it would fit was the 20 tooth (black). The 21 tooth had too long of a stem and the geared portion went too far. I installed the 20...

    Speedo gear help needed quick

My '92 Explorer with the A4LD is currently running 31x10.5 tires and has just had the diff ratios changed from 3.73 to 4.56. Anyone know how many teeth I need on my replacement speedo gear to get back to normal? Right now I'm going 70 and indicating 80. I know I need more teeth on the...

    '92 only moves in O or D

My '92 with around 125,000 miles had a good xmission rebuild at 93,000. No relation but I recently had my 3.73 gears changed to 4.56. At the end of a hard day in the desert, the vehicle, when started, would only move forward in 1 or 2. Neither D or O would work. I detached the linkage and...

91 explorer transfer case and push button control

This is a common problem that I have solved on my Dad's 96 and my own 92. The electric motor at the rear of the xfer case is not properly turning to get the vehicle into/out of 4wd. I solved one problem by replacing this motor and solved my problem by dismantling the motor and simply cleaning...

    Biggest tire on OEM rims?

Many interesting posts on the size of tire possible with various lifts but what if one wants to continue using the stock rims? By stock I mean 15x7. Isn't the old rule of thumb "no wider than 2" over wheel width"? I intend to install a 4" Superlift to replace my Skyjacker 2". I'm running...

New to group- need lift advice

I have a '92 XLT running a Superlift 2" lift (larger coils and helper leaf) with BFG 10.5x31 on stock wheels. I'm interested in stepping up to a 4" lift with new Pittman arm, new radius arms, and a new leaf stack. I'll find my own brake lines and will go with Edelbrock shocks as I currently...

    Rancho or Edelbrock

I used 5000s on my '92 for a few years then switched to the IAS as soon as they came out. IMHO, the Edelbrocks perform better on and off the road (and I spend a lot of time off road).
