Peter, I don't think the radio has been turned on in the instances where the noise was occurring, but I'll check that on my next drive to see if there is a correlation. Thanks Joe

Thanks for your comments guys. I've done some other investigation which leads me to believe the sound I'm hearing maybe from the a/c actuator for the rear blend door...which is apparently on the right rear passenger side...however this is anecdotal. It really sounds more like a relay switch...

Recently noticed a clicking noise inside on right rear passenger wheel well area, sounds like a relay. Some searching suggested that it may be the actuator for rear HVAC blend door? So far only notice it when at stop lights. Suggestions, solutions, how to fix instructions are all welcomed.

Here's a pretty good video presentation from a Ford Master Mechanic doing the repair on a 2018 Explorer roof rail recall. This is the "newest" fix recommended by Ford drilling premeasured holes then using push in attachments.
