My 97 XLT has started having a strange noise coming from the rear end. It sounds something like a rock in the tread. I have checked and the tread is clear. I have also checked both E-brake assemblies and they are good. The noise is not very loud and hasn't seem to get any worse. It's been doing...
I'm getting ready to replace the LBJ's on my 97 XLT. I have looked at the Sticky and several threads and was wondering if it was necessary to remove the knuckle/spindle in order to replace the lower ball joints or can they be replaced without all the extra work?
I have a 97 XLT, SOHC, 2WD, stock with 159K miles. A few days ago I started hearing a strange "klunking" type noise especially when I hit a dip in the road. One time it sounds like it's coming from the driver front and next time from the driver rear. It doesn really sound like a "bang-bump"...
I have a 97 XLT, 4 Door. Does anyone know if the power door locks can be reporgramed so that all 4 doors unlock when the key is turned off? Now, none of the doors unlock. Only the two front doors will open when the inside handle is operated. None of the doors unlock when the key is turned off. I...
Thanks for the info., guys. There's not much room to get the door panel off with the stuck door closed and the rear seat very close to the panel. I'll get into it and see what I can do. If I can get the panel off, maybe I can get the door open and then see what needs replacing.
97 XLT. All of a sudden the left rear passenger door stuck closed. The power lock moves up and down. The outside handle moves but nothing happens. The inside handle is sticking out about half way, will move but won't operate the latch. Both handles feel like the operating rods are still...
I have a 97 XLT, SOHC, 158K, all stock. When I turn the function control to heat, I get heat but am unable to adjust the temp. It blows the same hot air with the temp control fully cold or fully hot. I cannot hear anything moving when I turn the temp control up or down. Also, how does the temp...
When I rebuilt my engine I got a bad lifter (new). It would never pump up and gave me a "tick". I had to go bacK in and replace all the lifters on the side with no. one cylinder. I was sure the tick was on no. one, but changed the all to be safe. The lifters were replaced free of charge along...
I have a 92 XLT with about 10k miles on a complete rebuild. All of a sudden I have developed what sounds like a knock around number one cylinder. When the engine is reved up the knock seems to go away. It idles smooth but has the knock. It is not a "tick" like with a lifter, it more of a "solid"...
:)Thanks for the tip on 5-30 oil. I did a complete rebuild about 6K ago, so I don't think any flushing, etc. is needed. I'll try the 5-30 oil and see if that helps. Thanks again.
I have a 92 XLT, 4x4 with about 6k on a completely rebuilt engine. Valvoline 10w40 full synthetic oil. When she sets for a couple of days, the lifters lose prime and she clicks for a few seconds on start-up. This only seems to happen after being idle for several days. Does anyone know of a...
Plugs and wires about 30k ago, cleaned throtle plate and MAF 10k ago, new air filter10-12k. I can't remember if I have cleaned the IAC. Do you have an opinion about the pump not making any sound when the key is turned on but still making pressure?
I have a 97 XLT 2wd, 145K. About a year ago it began to occasionaly hard start. It would turn over 3 or 4 seconds before it would start. Now it does this a lot more frequently whether the engine is cold or hot. I have replaced the fuel filter about 12k miles ago. The fuel pressure after she sits...
I have a '92 XLT with about 3K on a complete motor job, including new water pump, T-stat and hoses. Radiator is about two years old with no sign of deposits inside the filler neck area. With the 95* + temp we've been having here, with A/C on at idle or in traffic the truck will run hot (3/4 or...
I have a 92 XLT, 4x4, 4 door and was wondering if the full size spare was replaced with one of the temporary "doughnut" spares, if that would make room for a kind of "Y" pipe after the tail pipe goes over the rear axle and a dual (second) tail pipe between the temp. spare and diff. and straight...
I've just done a complete motor job on my 92 XLT. At lease one of the NEW roller lifters will not pump up. I've got 1000 miles on the motor and it looks like the lifter(s) will have to be changed. My question is is there a way to identify which lifter(s) are bad? I think it's on the #1 cylinder...
Thanks for the tip. I thought it might be something like that, but wasn't sure. I tried poping out the red ring, but my screwdriver wasn't small enough.
One of the wires pulled out of the back of the male pin connector on the T-case shift motor on my 92 X. Does anyone know how to remove the pin from the connector so the wire can be resoldered and then the pin replaced? The connector has a red ring around the center pin which looks like it could...
Thanks for the help. I was mainly looking for a good, deep tone, not loudness. How would a Dynaflo/Magnaflow with 2.25" duals from a single muffler back do? I know duals are not needed, but they look cool.
Hey, I know there are many post dealing with mufflers, sound, loudness, etc., but I would like opinions on what muffler would give the best tone for my '92 X, 4x4, with 2.5" pipe from the muff back. Thanks.
