'99 Sport 4.0 SOHC. 179,000. Just had upper/lower intake gaskets and now it will run/idle like it should when starting on a cold morning. Thermostat housing and temp sensor at the same time...leaking coolant. Did the transmission vb swap out at 120K due to slip between 2nd and 3rd. Worked...

That's a lot of good information! Thanks ! That was the plan...to replace the oil sending unit and if that doesn't help the situation, see if I can drop the lower pan and see if the pickup is mucked up. Just in case I do drop the lower pan, is there a gasket on the oil pickup tube? Thanks...

So the oil pickup just pulls off...and push back on? Or is there a bolt involved? I'd like to clean it and put it back on and would hate if it fell off later on. Thanks again!

Arrrgh...too late. They did the job today. So next time I will see the sticky (I'm sure there is a sitcky for this...) and save some bucks for sure. Dang, coulda bought lots of ammo for 500!

The tire shops I see pushing the nitrogen fill are charging for it... I'm not surprised... :eek:

I will probably wait on the injector o-ring change. I am fairly mechanically inclined and might try that one myself. If I get into the job I would also consider installing new injectors. Is this just a good thing to do since the engine has 170K'ish miles or is there a symptom I should be...

Well, I just got the front end aligned today and it is good to go. It was out of alignment and probably caused the inside tread wear because I didn't rotate as I should have and I didn't check the alignment as I should have...my bad!$ I've narrowed the next tire down to American owned...

Is this a fair price? I was quoted $575 out the door for upper and lower intake gasket/o-rings replacements. Said they will use the updated parts including new bolts as specified by Ford. This is an independent family owned auto center. Is this price in the average hi/low for this job...

I just received a vb from CVB for my '99 Explorer Sport. It has the 2nd to 3rd slip. This thread answered several questions but could you tell me what torque settings you used when putting the trans pan back on?...also the torque for the vb bolts. CVB said 95 in lbs...I'm having trouble...

It's the 4WD...switch on the dash for auto, full time, high, low, gee I'm working from memory but it is a 4WD... and BTW, sometimes the 4WD High/Low light on the dash blink on and off...good ole Ford trannys LOL
