    '99 4.0 SOHC help

Ok...changed out the oil pressure sending unit on my '99 4.0 SOHC Sport tonight. I was dreading getting the floor jack and a jack stand out of the garage...piece of carpet on the driveway to keep the chill off my back...removing the wheel and wheel well...argh...because the gout in my left...

    High Mileage SOHC's Explorers

'99 Sport 4.0 SOHC. 179,000. Just had upper/lower intake gaskets and now it will run/idle like it should when starting on a cold morning. Thermostat housing and temp sensor at the same time...leaking coolant. Did the transmission vb swap out at 120K due to slip between 2nd and 3rd. Worked...

    '99 4.0 SOHC help

That's a lot of good information! Thanks ! That was the plan...to replace the oil sending unit and if that doesn't help the situation, see if I can drop the lower pan and see if the pickup is mucked up. Just in case I do drop the lower pan, is there a gasket on the oil pickup tube? Thanks...

    '99 4.0 SOHC help

So the oil pickup just pulls off...and push back on? Or is there a bolt involved? I'd like to clean it and put it back on and would hate if it fell off later on. Thanks again!

    '99 4.0 SOHC help

'99 4.0 SOHC, can the oil pickup screen be cleaned if only the lower oil pan is removed? I want to check it because the oil light is slow to go out in the cold mornings. I'm also going to replace the idiot light oil pressure sending unit. Picked it up last Saturday but it's been raining. I...

    American made/owned tire company?

The tire shops I see pushing the nitrogen fill are charging for it... I'm not surprised...

Help, is this a good price?

I will probably wait on the injector o-ring change. I am fairly mechanically inclined and might try that one myself. If I get into the job I would also consider installing new injectors. Is this just a good thing to do since the engine has 170K'ish miles or is there a symptom I should be...

    American made/owned tire company?

Well, I just got the front end aligned today and it is good to go. It was out of alignment and probably caused the inside tread wear because I didn't rotate as I should have and I didn't check the alignment as I should have...my bad!$ I've narrowed the next tire down to American owned...

Help, is this a good price?

Is this a fair price? I was quoted $575 out the door for upper and lower intake gasket/o-rings replacements. Said they will use the updated parts including new bolts as specified by Ford. This is an independent family owned auto center. Is this price in the average hi/low for this job...

    American made/owned tire company?

I need new tires for my '99 Explorer Sport. Old tires are Michelin 255 70R16 and they have done well. I want to look at an American owned/manufactured tire this time...might go for a smaller ratio and a more highway type tread...maybe a 245 70R16. Any brand/model suggestions? Sure do...

Thanks to this forum! VB replaced :-)

Everyone speaks highly about the CVB valve bodies and so far so good! The best projects are the ones where you get to buy a new tool...so I got a new inch/pound torque wrench. Now I have a foot/pound and an inch/pound torque wrench. I went over the vb bolts several, several times checking...

    Problem Starting

After reading all the posts here...this is what I would do. You said the battery from your car works good in the truck and it is the same size battery. I would swap the batteries and drive both vehicles for awhile. If it is a defective battery, the problem should show itself sooner or...
