Thanks to this forum for all the info and help found here! Galcier991, BrooklynBay, and many others, thank you again!

I have a '99 Explorer Sport 4WD, 4.0L SOHC with 146K miles and 2nd to 3rd slip.

I ordered a CVB valve body and changed it this weekend...I see the SOHC is a little harder than the OHV due to the cursed cross over exhaust pipe...LOL!! Whew...what a *itch :-)

No slip at all driving today. Solid, smooth shifts. Thanks again for all the info!

Fluid...does 6 quarts sound close when changing the VB? Fluid appeared to be over the top of the crosshatch so I went to Harbor Freight and got a hand pump and slid the plastic tube down the trans pipe and withdrawed over a quart of fluid and then added back a little more than 3/4 quart and the fluid is touching the crosshatch mark now. This was with the motor idling and hot.

About the old VB...
The VB gasket was blown out in the area of the four solenoids and at the back outside of the servo unit. The pan was clean of derbis when I removed it. The magnet had a the gray mush on it... Cleaned the pan, installed new NAPA filter and rubbery pan gasket. So far so good.

Thanks again from DT98!! :D

Hi Glacier991!!! Sorry for miss-spelling your name...As I get older my left hand typing is faster than my right hand...geez...so I get more typos than I'd like...

Thank you again for all the info found here!!

Glad to hear that you got it fixed, it's hard to go wrong if you install a rebuilt and sleeved VB, As long as you install it correctly and torque it properly.

Everyone speaks highly about the CVB valve bodies and so far so good!

The best projects are the ones where you get to buy a new tool...so I got a new inch/pound torque wrench. Now I have a foot/pound and an inch/pound torque wrench. I went over the vb bolts several, several times checking the torque. CVB said 95 inch pounds is good so I did 97 :D

And during the project I got to use my 1/2 inch electric impact wrench and my recipro saw. Couldn't have done the job without them...

I had Central fix my valve body three years ago and it still shifts better than new!! Well worth it.
Is Donny still giving us the forum discount?

Good to hear that your vb is still going strong...

The discount from what I was told, is that forum members do not have to pay the up front core charge...if there was a discount off the price I must have missed being told about it...regardless, everything was first class, packing was Excellent and the return shipping was pre-paid.
I'm a happy camper!! :D
