    Starter Recommendations

So in a weird turn of events, I removed it to verify it was bad or not. Turns out it was good, so reinstalled. Verified the connections at the starter and battery and I have a feeling there was just enough corrosion at the positive cable that it wasn't letting it start. After reinstall and...

    Starter Recommendations

My original plan was a reman'd Motorcraft, but them decided on a new Bosch. Had a suggestion of pulling and checking the starter. It checked out fine so reinstalled and now it starts. So either I had a bad connection at the starter or at the battery itself, either way unhooking, inspecting, and...

    Starter Recommendations

I'm fairly sure my starter is toast. Do I pay the extra and stick with Motorcraft? Or is Bosch or AC Delco a reasonable option? Anyone have any experience with either brand in general or starter specific? Thank you!

    Pcv valve

Advance Auto says it doesn't fit an 03 though? And still need to get the old one removed. I'll be damned if I can get it to budge.

    Pcv valve

Went out to check, no visible part number. But I have another question - and I feel kinda dumb - how the hell do I remove it? Twist clockwise? Pull really hard? The last one I dealt with, it was just a push in. Nothing fancy like this :)

    Pcv valve

No worries. The easy solution sometimes evades us and at 1115 at night, it certainly did. I'm going to look at mine today and see if there's any part number on it.

    Pcv valve

4.6? If so, do you have the part number? There were three listed above, I just want to order the correct one. Thank you!

    Pcv valve

Could a bad PCV cause rough idle, but no CEL? At idle, I think I have a misfire but never get a CEL.

2003 with factory sub & RES

It's like you're inside my head - I had been thinking about looking for a good FM transmitter and save the headache. Sadly, the one in your link is out of stock. But it gives me a good place to start looking for one.

2003 with factory sub & RES

So what's the trick to make it all work? The factory radio with factory sub sounds fine to me, but the changer is jammed. And with the handful of factory indash changers I've seen, none of them seem to work very well after some age. I'd rather go with a decent Kenwood or Alpine stereo - $150 or...

2003 Hard Shift into Reverse after warm

I haven't yet. I hate how the 5R55W (or does the V8 have the E?) doesn't have a dipstick, even to check the fluid level and color. I may get the adapter tool, drop the pan, and change the filter. I have no clue how many miles are on that trans. It was put in used 10k miles ago, but no record how...

2003 Hard Shift into Reverse after warm

Just picked up an 03 EB 4.6 thats fairly clean for its age. One quirk I've noticed is the firm shift into reverse, especially after its warmed up. Is this a solenoid issue? Or a valve body issue? I haven't noticed anything problems going forward through the gears. Thank you!

Rear A/C Issue, 2005 Explorer Limited

I'm not sure where it would be located, but the sound makes me wonder about the blend door actuator. The gears may be stripped and stuck on the hot side.

    Idler & Tensioner pullies

I don't think I've ever heard a cam position sensor chirp before?

    Idler & Tensioner pullies

I have 173k on mine and I believe they are originals. And I'm only looking to change them because one or both are chirping.

    Idler & Tensioner pullies

Fairly certain I have an idler pulley squealing, can someone confirm that these are the correct ones for top and bottom? Dayco 89006 and 89015 for idler pullies. I've been considering a new tensioner pulley as well. I can't find what appears to be the correct arm for the 2000 - can I just get...

    Moog Balljoints

I'm looking to get the front balljoints done. I had planned to stay Motorcraft, but I haven't found upper balljoints from Motorcraft, just the whole control arm. Rockauto does list Moog though. I thought Moog was a decent brand, but I can't remember in recent years. Go with Moog upper and...

    Looking at an 2007

It doesn't look bad in the pictures, but it has 10k less miles than my current Explorer. I'd like to get something newer and fewer miles. Plus 100+ miles to tow it home if the tranny craps out.

    Looking at an 2007

While I'd love to find a V8, or get back in a truck - larger SUVs and pickups around here go for stupid money. Even 200k rotted trucks go for lame money. I got a chance to look at this closer and it is fairly clean inside and out. My folks have an 07 4.0 that has been trouble free - granted...

    Sudden blend door failure?

I haven't had too much luck either. Also, the heat works great in town but get on the highway and it goes away. Fortunately, the temps have been fairly decent so I can easily tolerate the 10 mile drive to work.

    Sudden blend door failure?

I'm going to google the part number from the old actuator and see what I can find. I've heard the rear wheel bearings are a pain in the butt on the 02-05? Upper control arms look pretty straightforward, haven't seen much on the lower yet. I decided with 140k miles, why press not just change...

    Sudden blend door failure?

I do recall the last Dorman unit had a tight fit. I may google the part number and see if I can find one. Rockauto doesn't list a Motorcraft with manual controls. When my wife and I got our 2000, I was pleased to find manual controls. I was surprised when it had tape/CD player plus a 6 disc...

    Sudden blend door failure?

I have the manual controls, I've never been a real fan of EATCs. I forget the brand, but its $30 from RockAuto. And I already wasn't planning to put the back bolt back in. It was "fun" getting it out, I'd rather not have to put it back in :) the hardest part will be lining up the shaft, so to speak.

    Sudden blend door failure?

I believe the culprit is the little electric motor inside the actuator. I removed the actuator and took out the moon shaped gear. The blend door moves freely with gear shaft in its spot. I was going to take it back out and leave it in the glove box for the time being - you know, for Mother...
