Remove stock 6 disc changer from 98 XLT

Hi, Just installed a JVC AVX740 double DIN video head unit in my 98 XLT. Everything looks and works great. Since the stock 6 disc changer is no longer connected (or required) I think that it should go to make more room in the console. How difficult is it to remove? Thanks, RMH

    Running boards

Doing some general maintenance work today on the Ex and one of the things I have to do (still) is repair the rubber strip on the top side of one of the factory running boards. It has a bulge and has lifted up just under the rear door. Not a big bulge but it is still there. I had my epoxy in hand...

    Premium display is out

My '98 XLT with premium has the all wonderfull display problem. The display does not work at all now. I have the 6 disc changer in the console and the in-dash CD/Cassette/AM/FM. I am trying to decide on fixing the display or installing a new double DIN Pioneer DVD/amp and speakers. Any ideas...

    Rear seat power windows

The rear seat power windows in my 98 XLT crawl up and down with glacial speed while the front seat windows are very fast. Is this normal? Is this a rear seat child safety measure that I can defeat like the child-proof locks? It is annoying to have to sit and wait for the rear windows to finally...

    Cargo area light lens cover

Does anyone know how to remove the cover on the cargo area light on a 1998 XLT? I have gotten the cab and back seat ones out (and back in) no problem, but I can't see any tabs on the recangular one in the very back.

Pulled these codes. What could it be?

Pulled 3 codes today: P0420 - Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold P0171 P - System too lean (bank 1) P0174 P - System too lean (bank 2) What exactly are "pending" codes? I bought this truck a month ago. It's a 1998 XLT with the 4.0 SOHC. So far, all I have done to it is to change the...

    Overhead console lighting

The lamp and mode buttons on the overhead console of my 98 XLT do not light up. Should they? Thanks.

    Hood prop

On my 98 XLT the hood is held open by the hood struts. I am surprised that there is no physical prop to hold that big heavy hood open. Even my Mustang has a prop for the factory lightweight composite hood. How do you ensure that the hood stays open while working under there? I am a little...
