I would remove it all and go back over it with at least 180. If it is 1/4 inch thick ( which is right on the line of too thick) I would use 80 grit. Make sure all the paint is gone, body filler should never go over paint. Glaze ( top coat) can though as long as the paint is not shiny. Sand it...
