Hello to the group.

I have a 1996 Explorer with 250K kilometers. Today the battery light came on in the dash. The instruments also have a guage which indicates that the charging system is working. The battery tests OK with a tester which applies a load while testing. The tester also has a feature that tests the charging system- it tests OK. Multimeter tests on the battery terminals with the engine running is around 14.5 volts and 12.6 volts with the engine off.

Everything I have done so far indicates that the alternator and battery are both OK but the battery light is still on.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

maybe a short in a wire....

I am not an electrical wizard by any means, but could be something to check.

I'm happy to report that after reading posts in a similar thread, the light is now off. Since every test I performed on the battery and alternator indicated normal, I removed the small connector with one wire attached to the alternator since apparently it goes directly to the dash light. I applied a small amount of dielectric to the connector and plugged it back in. It turned the light off.

Thanks to all who posted.
