I'm throwing that misfire cylinder 7 code
(P0307) and running a little choppy. It runs decent while driving but i can feel it idle a little heavy and choppy at lights. Also, if i'm going up a hill or get on the gas a little heavy it stutters. I replaced the spark plugs and my next thought is the coils?? A friend said that it could be something with the fuel injector and that i need to find a shop with a Motorvac 2 line cleaner.

A few things for a backyard mechanic to try--

Read and record codes--then clear them. You want to know if your actions induce new codes from here on

swap 2 spark plug wires first--with each other. see if the misfire moves with the swap-if a wire is bad it should make the new cylinder mis fire

if you still get a 307 code,

try swapping the coil packs for one another.

if it is ignition related, you should be able to make another cylinder misfire this way.

If not, then I would look at fuel injectors and or injector timing.

Try removing the camshaft position sensor cap while you have the coil packs off, and clean out any debris you see in there with compressed air

Had same 307 code on my 5.0. Spark plug wire was broken where it entered boot at plug. I think heat from exhaust manifold toasted it. Try just replacing #7 wire with a known good wire from another car. If it is the wire, replace them all with a good quality set, motorcraft if you can spare the money.

How long has it been sonce the last plug and wire change?

The plugs are brand new, gapper properly. I'm not sure on the wires as bought it used.

I'm going to try switching wires to see if that switches the cylinder. I also thought about getting a new wire and trying it in the parking lot to see if it idles heavy

Some times at night you can see sparks shorting to ground on bad wires. I'll bet it's about due for a set anyway.

spark plug wire test

a spraying water bottle with water and dishsoap. mist the sparkplug wires.
if the coating is bad you'll be able to see the spark come thru.

I had a shop take a look at it. They came back with the fuel injector being bad. They wanted $550 to fix it. I found a site called injector warehouse. http://www.injectorwhse.com/servlet/the-17887/1996-dsh-01-FORD-TRUCK-EXPLORER/Detail
I think this is what i need. I would get the 8 set and be one with it. Can someone tell me how involved of a job it is? I have decent experience but in no way am i a master mechanic.

Also, i am searching the site to see if i can find a tutorial type post but haven't found much yet.
