00 SOHC tappet/valve noise?

surfed the forum, but found no posts on subject for model year...sometimes on start up I will hear a loud/soft tapping sound...rev the engine and the noise is gone..is this an oil related problem?

My SOHC '99 Sport with 50,000 makes the same noise when it is cold. I haven't been concerned yet because it hasn't gotten any worse. Does yours do it all the time?

It sounds like you have the camshaft tensioner problem that plagues '97-'00 Explorer SOHCs. Do a search for 00M12 to find more information. The tensioners have had their warranty extended by ford to 6 years, 72K miles. If it sounds like a diesel when you first start it up and then goes away within a few seconds it would be the tensioners.

How can i get the Tappet Valve for my car a Mercury Mountaineer 2006, its the same thing with an explorer 2006, been searching for it in my home country Nigeria for a week now, can any advice where i can get it in the USA.
