Best shocks for the money are probably Monroe Sensa Tracs. I got a set at Sears for about $200 installed. Tires are a matter of preference, a lot of people like Bridgestone REVO's, I have them although I think they wear fast. Other people have BFG A/T's which cost a bit but wear like iron.

Buy your rear shocks at an auto parts store like Advanced and put them on yourself!! they are very easy to put on, literally 4 bolts!!, however, I think the harsh ride your experiencing is due to the heavy leaf springs!!!
As far as tires, I just put a set of Yokohama Geolander AT-S on mine and they are great!!! They are great and ride very well!!!
