'01 sport
Hey all,

New to this site and to my '01 explorer sport 4x4. It looks to me like the the front sits up more than the back. I see this in lots of explorers. So i want to fix it and would love to throw a 4" lift on it but can not afford it. So what should I do? Shackles, Helper leafs shocks? I want to get the most working lift(suspension not just body) for my doller.

thanks

G.

If you have mono-leafs in back, just switch over to 4 door leaf packs. Even if you have leaf packs already, if they're sagging, you may want to change them for a new(er) set. A lot of people here pull them off a low mileage junker. Do a search for leaf springs and you should find what you need.

Lift shackles and a torsion twist (again lots of stuff, just do a search) will get you some height for very little money. Then you can go higher when you have more cash.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

THe four door leafs bolt right up with no mods?

great!

Im going to try and find a junk yard that has the four door parts.Does it have to be the same year(2001-2005)? thanks for the help. any other ideas are still welcome.

You're actually looking at 1995-2001. Any year is fine, but you obviously get more difficulty in pulling the springs and less service life as the mileage and age increase.

You can definite save a lot of money going to a you pull it v. new, but the bolts tend to sieze. Bring a big breaker bar, lots of PB Blaster and a lot of patience. Good luck.

BTW, I'd also consider replacing your rear shocks as well. A lot of us have had good luck with Bilsteins and Ranchos. You can search around to see the pros/cons of each.

do u got pics of ur 01 sport

I noticed the same thing when I bought my 01 X sport. If your just worried about wether or not its level, look closely. The wheel wells are actually different sizes and a physical illusion makes it appear that the rear is sagging. Now dont get me wrong, it could be. But I measured mine and compared the top of the wheel wells to other features on the truck and the wells are cut differently. Most likely bc the front has IFS.

No pics yet...

The story goes on... does any one know what the diffrent "spring codes mean" or does it even matter. My local salvage yard can get me "L" or "F" for $50 per side of of a 2000 4dr. Is that a good buy?:thumbdwn:

I think F is the stronger code. That's what I put in mine. As for price, it sounds like what people have been paying. I sprang for new ones though because I plan on keeping her for a long time.

here is a pic of the ride(could not figure out how to get it on this page).

Slight angle, but I definitely notice some squat.

Looks like a lightweight trailer, so weight isn't a concern nor did it cause your squat, but have you installed any additional cooling? It's HIGHLY recommended that anyone who tows with a Gen 2 Ex, should get an auxiliary transmission cooler and filter and has a temp gauge installed as well.

No extrta cooling yet but I am going to look into that. I will search this forum for more info. The trailer is a light wieght to. I think the sag originated after a trip to home depot. I loaded up a bunch of tile and laminit(sp) flooring. Has not been right sence. THats ok It gives me an excuse to throw some mods on it. As for the spring codes Im going to go with the "F" unless any one can tell me otherwise.

doubletime47 before you buy 4dr leafs. Go look at your rear springs. You should NOT have a mono, you SHOULD have the leaf pack. So you would be better off going with an add-a-leaf.

I do have a leaf pack, but I dont think they are in great shape and the 4dr leafs are beefier and may even provide some extra lift no? On another note what type of shock sould I go with out back I have been looking around and the choices are numerous and daunting. I just want some good shocks that are not going to break the bank.
