would anybody with a 2001 x-sport be able to take meausurements from level ground to the centers of both the front and rear wheel wells (the fender lip) and post it? I am just curious, I have 35 in. in the front and 33 in. in the the back. I think this is how Ford made the body but I am not sure. Thanks.

This is how My 2001 Sport X stood:

Front
Drivers Side Stock: 33.5"
Passenger Side Stock: 34.25"

Yes the rear was a little lower.

Rear
Drivers Side Stock: 31.9"
Passenger Side Stock: 32"

When I lowered it I went about 2.5" - 3" lower in the front and only a 1" lowering block in the rear.

Thanks so much for the info. How did you lower the front...just adjust the torsion bolts, or did you do suspension mods?

Can the bolts be backed out while the truck is standing on flat ground, or should do i need to jack up the front? I am gonna try it this weekend.

Black Magic, you're truck looks amazing BTW!!

They can be backed out with the vehicle on the ground however they will be harder to turn. I don't have any problems turning mine with my 1/2" drive ratchet when mine is on the ground. The Ford procedure specifies to make adjustments with the vehicle on the ground, always going in the up direction. If you need to lower yours, then you are supposed to lower it a couple of turns past where you need to go and then come back up to the setting you need to be at. If you must make the adjustments while off the ground then you need to take it for a drive over varying terrain to bounce the suspension and then go back and measure.

Yes, I just backed them both out the same ammount of times. Then go for a drive. Now measure again, and back out the high side a little more, repeat process untill you are happy. Then go and get an allignment! Or you will chop up you tires pretty quicly.

Did It!!

Finally lowered my 2001 sport today!!
Matt (Blackmagic)... I want to say THANKS!
Your write up provided an easy guide to lowering my X.
My bolts are almost all the way out, and 2" blocks now sit in the rear. Pretty easy job.
Only thing I'll add to anyone else doing this.... remove the stock U-bolts and add the blocks and new U-BOLTS ONE SIDE at a time. I took both sides of stock hardware off, then as I jacked up the axel, it rolled forward. So it just caused a bit more struggle to get it all in line again.

Thanks for makin it so easy Matt!
