2002 4x4 Explorer XLT Advance trac

I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes and when I hooked it back up a icon on the dash lit up as showing traction slipping, and also the message center reads out Check Advtrac. I pulled it on to the grass and spun the wheels to be sure all worked ,all was ok there .There is a engage button on the console for the advance trac and the lite on it will go on and off like it should when I turn it the advance trac on and off.
Please , Can anyone tell me Why is the icon on and the message is there and how to reset the computer if that is what needs to be done? It has to be something simple (I hope)
Thanks

I have the exact same problem. This issue had been intermittent over the last couple of years but now it's stuck there. I did some research and was told that it was a "Electronic Shift Control Sensor" which is related to the ABS. The part number I ordered was 3L1Z3C187AA. The problem I have now is that I have no clue where that sensor is located.

For posterity I'll post back and let everyone know the results if I figure this out.

Welcome to this forum! Is this the rear speed sensor on the differential? Could you post a picture of it?

It actually turns out that this is the Yaw Sensor. It is located in the middle row (back row for non-third row versions) under the middle seat under the carpet.

I replaced that the sensor and it appears to have resolved the problem.

You really need to get the code pulled to find out which part of the adv-trac system is bad. My problem was the brake pressure sensor on the brake module under the hood. damn thing was $125! and another $90 for them to pull the code. Turns out there is not many shops that can pull ABS codes.

Could you post a picture of this part or the actual location where it goes?

Rock Auto sells the part. However, I got it cheaper through a dealership.

Here it is:

I had the brake pressure sensor replaced three years ago. That sensor caused the brake lights to come on and stay on.
