Here goes. About 2 months ago my Explorer Sport (76k miles) started making an extremely high pitch whistle coming from the front end. At first I thought it was a small commuter jet coming in for a landing at the airport across the road from where I was. [That's how loud it was!!] When the noise didn't go away I realized it was coming from my vehicle. Very high pitch, pitch and sound level didn't change at any speed, pumping brakes, driving in neutral or 4wd. It was constant until stopped. Started at 10 mph. As sudden as it appeared, it stopped. It came back a few days later. Took it to a mechanic I've know for over 20 years. At first he thought it was the hub assemblies but couldn't get the noise to start again. He did notice that my rotors & front brakes needed replacement and thought the noise was caused by this. Four weeks & $400 later the noise started agian. This time I checked with various mechanics, other Ford Forums, and my cousin who is a front end specialist in another state. All indications were that it was the hub assemblies. Had them replaced. Several hundred dollars more and 2 hours later the noise is back. This time it's more of a chirping whistle that varies in sound level. Starts at 10 mph and stops when the vehicle stops. Had the following done - checked the rotor dust shields, sprayed the axle dust seals with WD40 as recommended by another mechanic, etc. Still have the noise.

At a loss! Need help!

Try CV joint on rear of front driveshaft?
