After researching for an iPod kit that still allows the factory control head to control the iPod, I found there not compatible with the stock 6 disc cd changers.

How would I go about installing an iPod kit, and what features would I lose if any? What are the reasons for it not being compatible? Are there any other better solutions that don't involve replacing the whole head unit?

Why would you need it to be compatible? If you have your ipod plugged in then you just put all your CD's on that and then you dont need the 6 disc changer anymore.

Some iPod input kits are not compatible with the stock in-dash 6CD changer because the stock in-dash 6CD changer (i.e., the OEM head unit) does not have an external CD changer port. As such, there's nothing to plug the iPod input kit into.

In this case, you're SOL. You either use an in-line FM connection, or replace your head unit.

Adam,

Thanks for the incite and explanation on that. I'll have to look into changing the radio head in the near future. You're helps greatly appreciated!
