Hi all;

The other day on my way back to work my CEL came on. Today I had the codes pulled. Bad 02, bank 2, up stream. I want to, and would like to attempt to replace this with out have to shell out the major $$$ that the mechanics want. I have a few question though. In no particular order, here they are:

1) Upstream. I understand that. Fine and good, but what are they refering to when they say Bank 2? Is that driver side, or passenger side?

2) Wires. How do I detach them from the bad 02? How do I reattach them to the new 02? Are they attached to the 02 by a harness. If not is it pretty straight forward as to how I attach and reattach them to the 02? Any splicing involved?

3) Fit. I have my hands on a wide array of tools right now, which is great. However, it looks like I am going to need a special socket to loosen this correct? Does this socket have a name?

4) Loosening. Any tips to make my life a little bit easier when it comes to lossening this *******? I heard it can be quite frustrating. Logic says WD-40 and hot exhaust pipes. Can anyone add to that?

5) Brandnames. I should be aware of? I have heard mixed reviews on the Bosche 02.... thoughts?

As you can probably guess I am not much of a mechanic. I do oil changes, sparkplug ( if they're accessable ), sparkplug wires, alternators, some gaskets, the relatively easy stuff. I really want to try this though, cuz I wanna say that I did it myself, and of course the $$$ I will save. So with that being said.... gimme a hand with this!

Thanx a lot.

So anyway....

My CEL came off while I was driving the other day. I asked mechanicabout this. He told me not to worry about it then. However, he told me that if it happens again, I might have to replace it. One thing I would like to add to that is that while the CEL was on, my fuel economy did not suffer one bit... mind you it was on for only 2 days.

Still, if it comes back on, it would be nice to know exactly what to do. Thanks.

Bank 2 is driver side
The sensors plug in
I think any 7/8 wrench will get on there, just unplug sensor first obviously.
I do have the special slotted socket, but don't really like using it.
Tap the end of the wrench with a hammer just till you see it break loose, and you are good.
Before you start the job, disconnect the battery so the computer resets.
I would be tempted to replace the bank 1 sensor also, it is a bit trickier to get the plug.
You might be able to reach it from underneath, but the easiest ( really) way is to remove the center console, pull back carpet over hump and remove the access panel in floor ( 1/2 hour max) 4 bolts is all holding console in, pop it straight back to release from wedges in lower rear.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot JT. I really appreciate it.
