My 02 (5R55W) just started with the flashing O/D light and a hard up shift (now down shift as well) from 2 to 3 on our way home from visiting my father-in-law (200 miles away). Guy at the local Auto Zone told me his girlfriends 02 EB did the same thing and he said the tranny is getting ready to "grenande" He just paid $1796.00 installed w/2yr warranty to replace his. He recommended some other things if I want; solenoid kit, seperator gasket. (something about the original one was not bonded and was prone to leaks).
Me I have rebuilt 2 manual trannys and replaced 2 auto at home and a few dozen at work. (Former STL Assembly Plant worker Chassis Department Heavy repair and EEC control systems on Explorers 95 thru 06) but have never tinkered inside.
At any rate I really do not have the money to buy a rebuild let alone have it installed. I want to try a more economical approach first. Let me know what you found please. Other research has indicated a ISS sensor could be to blame as well.
It is for the delay/lazy shift between certian gears on our trany's due to wore servo bores and not necessarily for hard shifting.
You might want to get the O/D code read to see what it says. It might piont to a different problem than the servo bores.
