Yep, the title says it all except the truck shifts perfect any other time. Checked the fluid today, that was fun, fluid was fine. Could this be the tranny solenoid? Any advise is helpful. Thanks

Sounds like low fluid level to me. I'd add a quart.

as my original post states, the fluid level was full. I don't want to overfill it in fear I will blow a seal. I am very concerned about this because I have a 3000 mile trip in less then a month.

There is an overflow vent on the top of the bellhousing, you will not blow a seal. You may need fluid. If not, the torque converter might be going south.

So should I add a quart even though at normal operating temperature, fluid is dripping from the fill hole in the drain plug? If the torque converter was going south, wouldn't this happen all the time from a stop. This only happens on really hard stops. Otherwise normal driving, tranny shifts perfect from a stop and all other gears.

On a hard stop, the fluid sloshes forward. Momentarily if the fluid level is a little low there will be too little fluid at the back of the transmission where the pump intake is and you will lose operating pressure and get slipping.

You should check the fluid with the engine running, shortly after having shifted through each gear, revving a little at each. Fluid should be streaming out, not just dripping. When you have added enough, the slip after a hard stop should go away.

A little too much fluid is much better than not enough, the slipping will wear the clutch packs rapidly.

Thank you deacon for the useful info. I will add a quart today and see if it helps. I will let you know how it works out. I am worried because we have only had the truck for 6 weeks. We love it. We had an 04 xls that was an awesome truck but this one is a totally different animal and would love to get many great miles out of it. Never had a vehicle with all the bells and whistles like this one.

Did like you said Deacon. After burning my arm on the exhaust and spilling a quart of Mercon V all in the same move, finally was able to pump in a quart. That was the ticket. Problem gone. Drives perfect. Should have listened the first time my friend. Thank you.

exhaust burns and spilling one quart is part of the standard procedure.

glad it worked out.
