Hi.. I have an 03 Mountaineer 4.0 129,000 miles (more or less) on it. Last week when I put it on reverse it made a loud clank noise like if something was going to break! Everytime you would put it into gear you would hear a clunk noise (that day). The next day when we were checking it out it wouldn't go into gear. It only takes the gear if you would accelerate it on neutral. We changed the transmission filter added more fluid and still does the same thing. We then took it to a mechanic and he scanned it and nothing really showed up on the scan but the abs. He gave me an "ford update" which had updates for the tranny. He took a look at it and said it was the tranny that need to be replaced. Do you think it's the tranny cause I can't trust nobody these days because everyone wants to make a quick buck!
