My Explorer is an :yelexp: 03 NBX with only 50,000 miles. I have had several instances where I start driving for a minute or two and when I come to the first stop it just shuts off. It will restart but the check engine light does not come on so the dealer says they have no way to pinpoint the problem.
They suggested I have the Idle Air Control Valve replaced, which I have scheduled for this week. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

does the car idle rough???

No, it doesn't seem to idle rough. When I come to a stop, right before it happens the truck kind of jumps slightly a few times and then cuts off. It has only happened a few times within the last couple of months and I had the IAC valve replaced today. I am hoping that may fix it.

I was having weird stalling issues with my 03, around 53k on it.

This is the condition the plugs were in:

Factory spec is like .052 - .056" gap, these were at .068-.073".

Immediately picked up about 3mpg city (13 to 16!) and the hesitation and stalling have dissapeared.

OK, Thanks for the advice. It hasn't stalled since i got the IAC valve replaced but i haven't driven it but twice since then. I will try getting some new spark plugs as well since it could probably use those anyways at this point.

Has the stalling gone away after replacing the IAC? I too am having the truck stall when i come to a stop, and no lights, so if this worked for you than i will go get this done. Also, how much did it cost?

IAC Valve replacement

Yes, the stalling issue had not happened since I got the IAC Valve replaced. It cost me about $140 with parts and labor at the Ford dealer.
I cant speak for its new owner though since i got rid of it about a month ago!! That truck had been in the shop more than any other cars I had combined!!

2 different problems

i have an 02 mountaineer and my buddy has an '03. i had the same problem. at idle it would just die. sometimes at a traffic light, sometimes in the driveway. the time it died on the highway was fun. haha well we replaced the IAC on mine and the problem dissapeared. My friend replaced the IAC, and the problem didnt go away. Then he replaced the throttle position sensor, and the problem was fixed. so if replacing the IAC doesnt do it, the throttle position sensor is not too expensive and easy to do yourself if you have any clue what youre doin. good luck!:D
