My 03 is at 26,300. Is there a 30,000 mile service schedule for an 03? I don't have a manual for this truck. Is there anything I should be aware of or look for?

Cool

Thats awsome thanks for the link. I'm just about ready to do the first service on my 03 Sport as well, Changing over to Mobil One 5/30 oil/filter.

it calls for a cabin air filter replacement does an 03 have one?

also it says 150'000 K for an automatic tranny service under normal driveing
are they serious ATF will last that long?

Dave

For the 02 at least it calls for a transmission fluid change every 30k and the filter to be changed at 150k.

I don't know about the manual tranny, but the automatic (5R55E) is not 'scheduled' for filter/fluid change 'till 150k miles. I'm like Dave and think that's too long for filter/fluid change. I plan to do mine at around 75K miles. I also run synthetic oil and change it at 5K intervals. I plan to keep this truck for a long time.

Its CRAZY trying to get a fuel filter for an 2003 explorer sport 4.0 v6

Youd THINK a fuel filter is a fuel filter when it comes to an 4.0 v6 SOHC

But heck they have one for

sporttack except sport

flexfuel

with Vent and non sport 4x4.

I'll go to directly to FORD on my way home from work friday and get one LOL

I'm curious what Ford gets for a fuel filter. I had trouble finding one for my '02 XLT and finally just let my independent shop replace it for me last time I had the oil changed. They charged $45 for the filter and another $65 to install it. Ouch, but I do trust this shop and it looked like you might need a special tool to get the fuel lines off.

Well I have the automatic transmission and according to myford.com it says for my service that my 2002 XLT is to be changed every 30k. MyFord.com is set up off of my vin number so I don't know which is right?

Do you have the Scheduled Maintenance Guide? It came with the Owners Guide. It does not list the 5R55E trans at 30, 60, 90, 120K for fluid change. I don't know about myford.com. It's down this morning as I was gonna take a look there too. At any rate it sure couldn't be bad to change fluid every 30K miles, as long as they get the right stuff back in there. It has to be Mercon V fluid, not the older kind.

Well I purchased the fuel filter today, for an 2003 explorer sport they
had 2 options one with engine code K and one for engine code E. mine has engine code E ( whatever that means) the filter costed me $ 34.55 Canadian. if i would have had engine code K it would have only been $15.55 what was ford thinking when they came up with this idea??? Ya ive got the tools for removal.

Saturday I'm going to drain the oil and do my switch over to 5/30 Mobil One
install the new K@N air filter and change the fuel filter rotate my tires and pump them up to 40 PSI drive around for a few weeks and see if there are any changes.

Dave

code K is flex fuel or E85

another question, Saturday i did my service and i had no problems locating the fuel filter in front of the tank drivers side ( luckly I usd the pit at work) nice to beable to walk under the truck instead of lay under it. The rear lines came right off with the use of one of my plastic fuel line disconnects
The front line on the fuel filter that goes towards the engine after I removed that steel safety clip or whatever it was useing the same plastic disconnect
tool i pushed it in BUT to save my own life I COULDNT GET THIS LINE TO COME OFF am i doing something wrong? is there a different tool required for the front line? I had the little plastic tool pushed right in and i was pulling every which direction to try to get it off but no luck i didnt want to break anything so i put the lines back on and left it be.

sooooo what am i doing wrong?

thanks
Dave

Hi Dave, what does the connector look like? Can you post a picture of it? I'll bet if you posted a picture someone would chime in with some ideas.
