Hey, SilverSPL, nice setup ... more then I would do, but it looks great.

What headunit did you use for that install? Is that a 2-DIN, and if so, does it fit into the stock headunit location without modification to the bezel?

EDIT: I see the picture of the custom housing for the HVAC unit with an audio panel, but where did you end up putting that stuff? I can't find a picture of the housing installed.

It's a Alpine IVA-W200 And i didn't have to cut anything all you need to mount it is a double din mounting kit for the explorer.

I relocated the HVAC controls into the center console and put the center chanel speaker in it's place.
I had to extend the factory wiring harness 2' so it would reach

I was a professional installer for a number of years; also tore apart a number of cars down to the bare to build a big system and hit some shows. I gotta say, you did a GREAT job! I'm really impressed you had the patience to take so many photos as you went! Say, why did you decide to go with the JL marine amp? I'm planning a system for my explorer this year (nothing like yours) but am looking for a really good SQ amp to run a pari of Eclipse 8062's up front. Again, rock solid job!!!!!!!

He said he went with the marine vs the regular, becasue he got a better price on the marine.

Nice install. I just wanted to chime in here on a few things. I noticed that you mounted your JL amplifier on the fender well directly on the metal. Did you get any ground loops by doing that? It is a very common thing when you mount them directly to metal instead of mounting it to mdf and then the mdf to the metal. Also the rear view camera looks awesome on my truck. It is in the old key hole. No more key hole. Nice factory appearance. Give it a try. And I have an Iraggi Alternator which is a 240 output and I paid 375 for it shipped to my house and there is no requirement for a bracket to be made. It is direct bolt on. 2 cents.

Hey thanks for the comments.
Nope no grounding loops luckiny.
I don't have a key hole on my explorer to put it in or i would.
I talked to allot of experts in the alternator business and they said the most output you could get is 200 with that size housing. So how your getting 240 i'm not sure unless it's a different custom housing.

I am telling you right now. I have a 240 amp alternator from Dominick Iraggi, the owner of Iraggi Alternators. It is a direct bolt in and no problems. Paid 375 shipped to my door. You can get your own quote from him directly.

You can get larger output from Iraggi, as mentioned, Excessive Amperage, Mean Green, and Power Master (my recommendation, call and ask for Scottie Johnson). As such, if you look around the web, you'll find every one of these places is love/hate. I'll say Iraggi was not good to me, but Mean Green and Powermaster have both been excellent (along with Wrangler NW, but I don't think they go larger than 200).

Aaron, I believe he was trying to stay away from going to a custom bracket to hold the alternator. I was told by Iraggi also that going larger than 240 would require a custom bracket.

Yeah, all those places build custom winds just like Dom. It's all a personal preference type thing, though I sure wouldn't fear a custom bracket if it allowed a larger case to be used. Given the same output, I'd opt for a larger case everytime for it's heatsinking abilities. Unless you have no way of making the bracket, but Iraggi and Powermaster make them for people on a regular basis.

Oh, and to stay on topic, I love the center console climate controls. Well done.

thanks,

Thought I would post this question in here that a guy asked me so if anyone else wanted to know:

i have the same color ex as yours and i want to paint the interior trim panels like yours. do you know the exact color of that paint you used? it looks amazing! also, how do those door panels(just the woodgrain part) come off? clips maybe? if it is clips, are they usable after you take them out or did you have to find a new way to reattach that panel? thanks a lot.

I went to a body shop and they matched the paint up.
The trim is plastic welded on there so you have to drill it out just enough to get rid of the weld. Then to put them back on I got some washers and screws (that come with aftermarket stereos to mount them, they are small and have wide thick threads, perfect for this use.) and put the washer on the screw and threaded them into the hole thats left after you dril out the plastic weld. YOu will need about 24 screws though so do some searching for them or hopefully you can find something similar.
good luck

Hope I'm not too late, but I want that. Curious, what type of speaker is it the equivalent of? The sound?

Well your first in line. So if you want it its yours.

On the sound quality side of things I barely used it thats why i'm selling it. It got about 10 minutes of play at most. Is sounded very good for the 10 minutes i listened to it and got considerably loud for the size speaker it is.

I'll take it...

Thank you! pm sent...

Can you drive it?

JP
