I am pretty sure they are double sided taped on. It is hard to get all the tape off the molding once you pull it off and you need the real good tape to get it back on to stay. Could you mask off the molding, sand it and repaint it on the truck?

Yeah, that's what I'd do rather than taking it off. If you tape it very carefully the results should be good. Eastwood makes/sells special wheels for getting the goop off from the double sided tape w/out hurting the paint underneath. I've seen them used on TV and they work really well.
I was told by a ford tech today they were bolted on, guess I'll find out when I pull the door panel off, if it comes down to it I will just mask off around it for paint.
