Hey you all,
For the past week I've been having trouble shifting out of park. Sometimes it will, buuuut sometimes it won't. The manual tells us how to get around this obstacle' and my dealership says bring it down. Times being tight I thought maybe someone might have run into this issue Thks

Is the car actually not coming out of park when you shift? or is the shifter not moving/won't let you press in the button on the front of your shifter?

If the shifter just isn't moving (you don't here that "click" when you put your foot on the break to press in the button on the lever) there are two things you can do:

1) If you pull up the black rubber in the bottom of your cup holder next to the shifter, there is a black rectangular piece of plastic. If you slide it sideways it will come out and you should be able to put your finger down in the hole and manually release the shifter. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS!!! Your foot doesnt have to be on the break, so if you're not paying attention, your truck will shift into reverse and start moving.

2) Clean the shifter. A few weeks ago I accidentally spilled cough medicine (don't ask how) on the plastic cover that moves back and forth with the shifter. A few days later, mine started stick and hasn't stopped. There is a thread on this board somewhere that references installing a stereo/removing your center console. If you follow the first few steps of that procedure, it will show you how to remove your interior panels, starting with you armrest and moving forward down the center console. After a few steps, you should be able to see the workings of the shifter. Go at it with some compressed air, or maybe some armor-all (any mild cleaner that won't build up and leave gunk) and you should be home free.

There has also been a TSB on this issue. So if you still have any warranty left, bring it in and they replace the shift interlock.

mine did this too, took it to dealer, service rep said he had not seen this problem. i mentioned this forum and he said he would look for a tsb. he found the tsb and fixed it under warranty.:exp:

Won

Mine (2006 Explorer) isn't hard coming out of park... it won't!! I can't take it to the dealership because it won't come out of park. I can feel the the button/break make some kind of movement but it just will not come out of park! It's stuck in the driveway. HELP!!
