I have recently purchased a 2007 4x4 Ex. with around 132,000, was informed at the time of purchase that a solenoid needed to be replaced, drove it 5 hours back home, didn’t seem too bad, was just skipping first and second gear and starting in third. Drove it to work today and made it halfway home and decided to get gas. Went to leave the gas station and it was stuck in first gear while in drive. Tried the 3 & 2, still in first. I’ve heard of the transmission and radiator issues with these explorers and I’m taking it to a shop tomorrow to explore my options. Pulled out the trusty code reader and had multiple solenoid codes and a torque converter code. I received this vehicle at a steal of a price so investing some money in it would not be an inconvenience. I’m wondering if anyone has successfully swapped this transmission to something more reliable, and if there’s a replacement radiator to try and prevent future issues.
