08 Mountaineer Running Board Install?

I bought a 2008 Mountaineer last month it did not come with running boards so I bought the Westin SureGrip.

My problem is when I took off the plastic thing that was there in place of the running board, the nubs and plastic, are still there. My concern is if I take it off, and install a bolt there for the bracket, could I damage the fuel lines by removing the plastics and is it possible to remove the plastic?

The fuel line have that plastic loom I intend to try to remove the plastic and reinstall it beteen the bolt and fuel lines. Anyone have any experience with this before?

My 2008 Mountaineer also didn't come with running boards/step bars. I bought some factory step bars.

After you take off the frame-hider bolts (if you can call them that), get a hack saw blade and cut off the remaining plastic screws as close to the body as possible without scratching the paint. If you do scratch something, like I did in one spot, apply some clear lacquer or factory touch-up paint to prohibit rust. Then you should be able to just slide/tilt the plastic brackets up and out without damaging any lines. If I recall correctly, all of them, except one, came out rather easily. The booger was the left rear bracket. It just required a little twisting and coercing.

Putting on your new running boards/step bars should be easy after that. Getting a single screw up over the body lip one at a time is a lot easier than getting off the old brackets.

Chris, thank you for the information it was difficult manuvering the line and plastic out of the way. The job took me about 3 hours, I went at it today and used a razor blade and did some cutting.

My friend has a 2006 Mountaineer and his fuel lines are not in the way, would have made it alot easier.

I will post some picks of the Mountaoneer with the SureGrips later this week thanks again.
