I know everyone recommends 1.6 rockers on the GT 40p heads with an E cam, but the 1.7s have that choppy idle I love. What are the power increases/decreases between the two types of rocker ?

I had 1.7 on my mustang and it did not change the idle. The reason you wont need them is your motor will not rev this high to utilize the 1.7's. In a mustang, the 1.7's gain a real 18hp over stock, but, it is from 5100-5600 where the motor usually falls off. Your truck does not use this range well.

stay away from the 1.7's in an explorer unless you're building a full on race motor. they dont really add much power, just move the powerband up. in other words, the hp they add at high rpms will be taken away from low rpms. it will run good at wide open throttle, but will be a turd driving around town unless you plan to spin the motor very high every time you need to accelerate.

I 2nd what james said...
