The 17 " rims on my 2008 Explorer have the same bolt pattern, offset, center bore as my 2003 16" inch rims. The 2003 takes a stock 17" rim with 245/65 R17tire according to the manual. When I look at the rim specs for the 2008 rim it says it fits the 2006 to 2010 Explorers. Any reason why they would not fit on my 2003? Thanks for any input... :salute:

You can go up to the 17" rims, I think you just can't go down to a 16" rim.

My '04 with 17" rims sits about an inch or so higher than my '05 with the 16" rims.
Just know that your speedometer will be off unless you account for the different tire sizes.

Here's a good website to convert tire sizes, in order to not throw off the speedometer.

You can use 16" rims on a '02+ Ford Explorer, you just can't use a 15" rim. As long as the tire height of all four are the same, you can run the 17's without issues.

Could you measure the clearance from the rear toe link to the inside edge of the wheel? I have 17" and 16" seems like the clearance would be minimal. Personally I am nervous about ordering 16" wheels due to this clearance area. And 17" tires are difficult for the size I would prefer to run. Without moving up to 18" wheels.

Ty in advance if you can measure this area. Jim

My Ex with 17's has about an inch clearance. My Ex with 16's has a 1/4" or less.
