17 x 8 cobras

I have to opportunity to buy some 17 x 8 cobras (not R's). Is that too skinny? I want them to stick out at least as far as my current stock 15' rims. The tires are 245/40r17, but I may change them.

I think I figured that there was about a 1/4" difference that my bullitts sit in further than stock. They look fine in front but I'm still thinking about spacers in the rear. I'd want a second opinion, but 17 or 18x9's just have a deeper offset so no help. Also, do you have flares to fill?

did you mean 245/45/17's? thats the most popular mustang size, and i dont think ive ever seen a 245/40. either way, you're gonna want to ditch them as soon as you get them on. they are way too short even on a lowered explorer.

No fender flares, but the further they stick out the better.

How wide can my spacers be without damageing wheel bearings?

Can the spacers in the back be wider?

What size tire should I go with to maintain the same outside diameter as stock?

W/o flares you probably won't need spacers. The fronts will flush up with the fenders and the rears will only be slightly inset. I'm only thinking about 1/2" in the rear and probably shouldn't worry about it at all.

For tire size calculate your stock size by:
2(treadwidth x aspect ratio) + rim dia.
25.4

ex. 2(235 x .75) = 352.5mm, 352.5/25.4 = 13.9" + 15" = 28.9" Dia.

I'm running 255/60/17's but I think most go with 275/50 or 55's which would stick out a little more.

Bump on how much spacer can be run.

either a 255/60 or a 275/55 will be the exact same height as the 235/75/15 stockers. i know nothing of spacers, and dont really like them.
