Is there a compatible shifter of another year for a 1987 ford ranger that's standard?

This link may help you figure out what you have now. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/ManualTransmission.shtml
Looks like different transmission for 2wd/4wd and 2 cyl and v-6 engines in those older Rangers.
When you know what you have, I got another link to show what you can swap.
The transmission will be a TK5. The TK5 shifter has plastic parts that wear out and break. A new shifter is $200. If you find a shifter from a TK4 (83-87) it is all metal. Minor modification is needed to make it work.
Not sure if you have the 2.8 or 2.9 V6, but the first paragraph in this link http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/InterchangingTransmissions.shtml seems to say that any trans that came behind a 2.8, 2.9, or 4.0, will bolt up, that they all share the same bolt pattern. So that gives you more options!
