Hi,
I am new to the forum. I had my Transmission rebuilt recently and the guy convinced me to have him change the rear main engine seal while he was in there. That is where my trouble began. Is there anyone here that knows how the wear ring is installed? I think the guy may have put in in wrong.

Thanks

...California is a big State...Where are you located???

...The OC...

...Let's get a couple questions out of the way..;)

...Was this a shop that did the repair?
..Are they going to do this fix?
..Or, are you going to try and fix this yourself???

...The reason I ask is, It is important to have the details to the repair noted...If a shop did it, you do not want to have someone else touch it until they have at least tried to remedy this...

...If all else fails...:shifty_ey .. I know a guy...

I was able to convince them to pull it apart in their shop. They are going to put the seal in tomorrow. My concern is that they will do it wrong again, and I will be no better off. :(

Thanks, the wear sleave looks like I would expect, and the installer it comes with makes it obvious how it goes on. I am not sure how these guys got this one on backwards.

...Rofl...They sure didn't get their information from here...:D...Please update us on how it turns out...;)

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it.;)

...No problem...and BTW, Welcome here...:D

After further research, it looks like the OEM seal does install this way, but it requires a special tool to get the depth correct. I think this is where they went wrong. They probably don't have the tool. The one they installed was totally gouged by the wear sleeve. :(

...This happens way to often by shops..:(

..That is how so many people wind up coming here, to learn to do it themselves...Shop rates would be fine if, the shops had qualified people to begin with..:(
