Did a quick search for my problem and could not come up with a definitive answer so here i am!

1991 Ford Explorer 4x4 Eddie Bauer
The trans seems like when its in gear that there is very little torque going to the wheels, Even when the accelerator is floored its gutless as all hell. when it warms up for a couple minutes it gets a LITTLE better but not much. It shifts into and out of gear normal and also shifts like its supposed to when driving. It really doesnt feel like its slipping to me, more like something is holding it back. The previous owner i got it from said he ran it low on trans fluid if that helps any but that is all i know. I really dont know how to explain it but hopefully someone gets what im saying. If anyone needs anymore info just ask away and ill try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Thanks for your time.

1st thing I might check would be the brakes -- make sure they aren't dragging.

This last summer, my transmission was acting up so that, sometimes, it wasn't downshifting into 1st gear (starting out in 2nd).

If you are still talking, find out if the last owner changed the filter. The newer style filter requires a spacer and some don't install it. The filter then drops down and sucks air. As fluid warms and expands it gets better. Is it just first and reverse? Try it in D and manual 2 and see if you get better results.

Welcome to this forum! The O rings on the filter could go bad or the filter could get ripped. I've seen this happen before. There was no engagement, and since the filter was being partially bypassed, it clogged up the valve body.

Solved!

Sorry for bringing this post up from the dead but id figure id give u guys a little bit of an update, i don't get on the computer much =P.

The problem was the injector wiring harness and the ECU. The wires going to the injectors for the #1 and the #2 cylinders were twisted and melted together which caused a short and fried part of the ECU. Turns out it was running on 4 cylinders lol. Swapped in another wiring harness and ECU and the thing runs like a champ. Thanks for everyone's input =)
