1992 explorer gets a solid axle and v8 5 speed

Gates water pump

I was able to source water pump / timing cover bolts from another engine in the shop. This is a great way to store 5.0 waterpump
Bolts

Each bolt was cleaned with drill and wire wheel
New gasket sandwiched w permatex copper

Ford calls for thread sealant on the bolts that go through waterpump, through the timing cover and into the engines water jacket. Many 5 oh dudes will also use silicon here… but i still do fords way with the thread sealant

Surfaces prepped scraped, wiped w alcohol prior to gasket install
Next the heads and head gaskets
 






Engine tech Head gaskets and new head bolts

Heads were wire brushed to remove loose dirt, then old gaskets scraped, then cleaned with air, then cleaned in parts washer, finally drip dried
Heads gasket surfaces final prepped with 3m rotary pads, wiped with alcohol, and then finally the gasket and head installed on its dowels

New felpro torque to yield bolts dipped in oil and installed finger tight
