Embarking on a mini-restoration of my 1994 Ranger SuperCab XL that I bought for $500 bucks with a blown trans. After redoing the trans, I tried removing the exhaust manifold bolts and failed miserably with 5 sheared in the engine. I decided since it was leaking from every orifice with 159K on it, I might as well rebuild it. Almost all of the work was already done after pulling the trans, what's a few more bolts? Just about every piece I pulled off the engine was garbage in terms of accessories. Anyway, what I have planned for the mods is as follows:

- 95TM Heads
- 410 Comp Cam
- High Volume Oil Pump
- 5.0 MAF housing (stock 4.0 sensor)
- Ifab intake
- 66mm TB
- Pacesetters / Magnaflow cat / Dynomax cat back

Pictures of the road so far...

Finished tearing the engine down and measured the piston bores. Cylinder measurements are as follows, with A being opposite the plane of the crank, B in the plane of the crank center-line, 1 signifying top of the bore and 2 being the bottom of the bore (as per diagram).

Cyl 1:

A1 - 3.9565
B1 - 3.9530
A2 - 3.9530
B2 - 3.9520

Cyl 2:

A1 - 3.9560
B1 - 3.9520
A2 - 3.9540
B2 - 3.9520

Cyl 3:

A1 - 3.9560
B1 - 3.9540
A2 - 3.9530
B2 - 3.9520

Cyl 4:

A1 - 3.9540
B1 - 3.9520
A2 - 3.9535
B2 - 3.9520

Cyl 5:

A1 - 3.9550
B1 - 3.9525
A2 - 3.9535
B2 - 3.9520

Cyl 6:

A1 - 3.9560
B1 - 3.9525
A2 - 3.9535
B2 - 3.9520

Does anyone have the factory tolerances and measurements for the bores? I can't say that I trust the Haynes manual.

All torn down, cleaned, de-rusted and honed. Just got my Melling M328 today. Rebuild kit and cam should show up tomorrow. Hopefully the resurrection begins this weekend.

Have a happy and safe St. Patricks Day :bdrunk:

New injectors and lifters on the way. Spent half the day assembling the shortblock Easter Sunday. New main and rod bearings and shiny new slugs and rings.

Nice work!

Got the wrong motor mount in the right box for the passenger side, so waiting for the right one and I have a bit more time now to detail the engine bay. Waiting on a few more parts... A/C Condensor, Oil Level Sensor and harness... Just got a new alternator (135 AMP Explorer unit to replace the stock Ranger 95 AMP), starter, PS pump, A/C Compressor, all new hoses and lines. This really is turning into a mini-resto. Still have to find a nice un-cracked dash, and figure out how the battery tray comes out so I can media blast it. Pulled the 4 bolts out, nothing. Its got to be attached from underneath, but haven't gotten that far yet.

Have most of the front apart now as well. Replacing the passenger side fender, the cracked headlight support panel, and radiator support bushings. Have a new bumper, headlights, and grill on the way to replace all the weathered stuff.

Reunited at last. She's starting to look less like a shell and more like a truck.
