Hello, I would be so grateful if anyone can help me with this. So I just picked up my explorer last night from the mechanic, who installed a new fuel pump. I had AAA tow it on a flatbed tow truck to the mechanic the day before, because it wouldn't start. Last night driving home from the mechanic of city streets, I noticed that when I turned at slow speeds, the explorer would sort of shake weird. Then when I got home, when I was stopped in the drive way with the car running, I turned the wheels all the way to one side, and it would shake pretty good. Then this morning I got onto the freeway to go to work, and when I got up to around 50 mph, it started shaking so violently, I had to get onto the side of the freeway. Once I got down to about 35 or 40 mph it would go away. What could it be? Was it the mechanic that screwed something up? Or could it of been the tow truck driver? Any advice would be awesome. Thank you for taking the time to read, and hopefully respond.

Very common. Hopefully air in the power steering system caused by turning the wheels with the engine not running.
Purge by slowly turning the steering lock to lock. Search "power steering shake", ten pages of posts. Here's the first:

Thank you for the reply

The guy at Napa Auto Parts said that air in the power steering would be the cause of the slow turns. But he said the shaking on the freeway is something else. I did the steering wheel back and forth thing for 10 mins last night, and it worked. I don't feel the vibration on slow turns anymore. Is anybody positive that the death wobble on the freeway could also be because of air in the power steering? I'm nervous to get on the freeway and try going over 55, because of the death wobble. Is there a chance that it was fixed with the wheel turning from side to side as well? Thanks for taking the time to read this

If in doubt get a free alignment check from a reputable shop. Call around and post your findings before any work. GL
