Is the headlight chime a separate unit (1995 Explorer XLT) that is mounted somewhere or is it physically located inside the GEM?

Think it's in the GEM.
Thanks...that's certainly all I've been able to conclude based on WAY TOO MANY HOURS searching this online, and the fact that there doesn't seem to be a part or part number for a "headlight chime" for a 1995 Explorer XLT. But on the other hand I haven't really seen anything that explains (or schematics that show) all sounds that emanate from the GEM. Seems odd that the key in the ignition sounds still works, which I also assume comes from the GEM. Not a big deal I guess, just that I sometimes like to use the parking lights as running lights during dawn/dusk or rainy days -- better just get in the habit of visually checking after I lock the vehicle so I don't drain the battery.

Also may go on the hunt for replacement GEM in order to test...or maybe not, given things like door key-pad code matching etc.

And as I was typing this I took a look on Ebay and found some pics of an opened up 1995 GEM p/n F57B-14B205-GB (something else I had been wanting to see). Nothing in there looks like it would generate an audible tone, but then again I have no idea what a tone generator on a board would look like...LOLz

1. No,
2. its all part of the GEM module. There a chime and tone generator inside.
The key, seat belts, headlights, doors, liftgate, wipers , go thru the gem.
3. The door keypad access ( security system) has it own module, except for the interior lights.
The door handle controls the lights,
the keypad will lock all doors with the car running or not.
With the car running, key in ignition, doors lock. The remote keypad will not open ( unlock) the doors. The only way too open the doors with a key.

Thanks Pete -- that's what I was looking for, and agrees with the various info I've pieced together online.

The black circle on that circuit board is the noise maker I have been known to put a screwdriver through it
