I moved your thread to our Stock 1995 - 2001 subforum where the right folks should see it. I know on the older Explorers it could be done, but I'm not sure about the AWD trucks. My guess would be that no, it wouldn't be good for the transfercase clutch, but I could be wrong...

Read the links I posted for you in one of the other threads you posted this in. They are links to explain to you about the AWD system and why it is usually recommended to not run it without the front shaft.
It is still up for debate, but those threads will give you a good amount of information for you to make your own decision.
