1996 Explorer XLT
I have a 96' Ford Explorer w/ 175k miles (4x4) and I noticed a leak for the 1st time two days ago. I was warming my car up before work and when I backed up I noticed the leak. I haven't seen this color before. It's like a rust red color that is coming from the front end of the car. There were a couple of places that it dripped, not one centralized spot. My fluids appear to be at acceptable levels. Any ideas what may be leaking?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

first off welcome to the site.........and the only red colored fluid i can think of is from the transmission, that would be the first place i would check, maybe the pan gasket needs to be changed

power steering fluid (either a line rusted out or a leaky seal)????

its either power steering fluid of transmission fluid.... my hose clamps worked themselves loose and i leaked tranny fluid from the cooler line which is right in front of the radiator on the left side...

My 1996 XLT (4.0L) had a leaky pan gasket and I had the same problem. I would recommend changing it and doing a flush and filter change while you're down there.
