I did a search but didn’t find any resolution.

In fast or slow mode my wipers work fine. But when in intermittent mode, they move for a couple inches, then stop, then move a couple inches, then stop.

I have replaced the wiper motor and the multi function switch. And the problem is still there!! Is there anything else that controls the intermittent wipers? Where is it? How much?

This is driving me nuts

Thanks in advance

That is weird. I'd of guessed the wiper motor. The other component on the system is the GEM module.

Anyone tell me where the GEM is located? and what it looks like?
is it something that can be repaced without costing a fortune?

Thanks

Is there anything on an explorer that doesnt cost a fortune?. The GEM controls wiper speed, wiper run and wiper park. There's also 2 relays involved (Wiper Hi-Lo and Wiper run both in Distribution box) but would have thought unlikely as you have slow and fast. Not sure where GEM is located but have noticed a control module behind the panel in the rear that covers tailgate wash tank & Ride level switch. Looks expensive to me (if that is the GEM).

I just realized that this Haynes repain manual is not worth the paper its printed on. In the index there is no mention of GEM or general electronic module. I was also going to look up cruise control for another members post and thats not even in the index. maybe I'll get a ford service CD from ebay.

Ill poke around inside the panel where the jack is to see what I can see. tks man.

but if anyone knows where the GEM is located it would be a big help.

pull out the radio. should be to the left hand side of dash.

As River said, in the dash behind the radio. Costs about $150 -$200, and only available at the dealer.

Before you spend any more money, replace the 3 relays in the engine bay. I'm betting you that is your problem. I had the exact problem, replaced the 3 relays, about $10 each, and it works like new again.

If you don't want to buy 3, just buy one and start swaping it around with the old ones. I tried that as well, but got frustrated and just bought three and replaced them all.
